Best Snorkeling for kids in Key West, Nassau??

Recommended Posts

Sailing on Carnival in June, going to Key West & Nassau. Thinking about booking thru the ship for Key West and going to Blue Lagoon (snorkel off of beach) in Nassau. We have an adventurous 10 yo, and a not-so-adventurous 8 yo. Neither have snorkeled in open water, but love to do it in the pool! :D Thanks!

The easiest place to go to snorkel in Key West is the public beach at Fort Zachery Taylor. There is a $2.50 admission charge and it's about 6 blocks from the docks. Walk up Whitehead to IIRC Southard and make a right. They also rent equipment, chairs, sell drinks and snacks, etc, but the knock on this is that the bottom is rocky and that you should use sea shoes.

If you would rather try a pool, there is one at Dante's

You can use the pool as long as you buy a drink or somethinig to eat. It's not a very deep pool but it would be good for the children. It's about a 15 minute walk from the docks at the Key West Bight, just beyond the Half Shell oyster bar. They have a pretty good raw bar at Dante's and live music some afternoons.
