normca Posted May 18, 2010 #1 Share Posted May 18, 2010 Thinks of taking the free air offer for the 14 day cruise on Flyer. Any feed back on the Flyer and especially the cruise would be helpful. Have been on the Royal but not the Flyer thanks

normca Posted May 23, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted May 23, 2010 75 views and not one reply to either info. on Flyer or the Western Med. cruise area. Surely someone has some info or has knowledge of a web site that has more information to give.
Neuhoftraveler Posted May 24, 2010 #4 Share Posted May 24, 2010 Norm -- Haven't been on the Flyer (twice on Royal), or to that particular part of the Western Med, but maybe this will break the ice and someone with something to say will join in. Meanwhile, try searching prior posts, or just scrolling down through prior topics until something relevant pops up. You also might look at the Windstar boards on this site, where there seem to be lots of comments on the ports at least.
normca Posted May 25, 2010 Author #5 Share Posted May 25, 2010 thanks for the idea for future search. I have also been on the Royal and a great ship and cruise was had. Just not sure what to expect with the med. cruise locations. We are mostly island travelers. thanks again
cluso Posted May 26, 2010 #6 Share Posted May 26, 2010 We have been on all three but we like the two smaller ships a tad better. However, that can sometimes be overridden by destination/cruise area. They are all a great experience. Have 2 more lined up! :D
cluso Posted May 26, 2010 #7 Share Posted May 26, 2010 FYI--not too many people post on the Star Clipper threads compared to other lines. However, from our experience, the people are great, well traveled, intelligent, and a lot of fun!
justjoejj Posted August 24, 2010 #8 Share Posted August 24, 2010 The Star Flyer is a great ship, spit and polish all the way with TLC. My experience was 17 days on the ship in Tahiti, c'e magnifique! The crew were wonderful, the food, delicious, and the atmosphere most welcoming and , intimate, and not overbearing. I even fished with the crew! We Too are interested in learning of others' experiences with Star Clippers in the Med. as we are sailing The Flyer for 2 weeks, Sept. 11-25, celebrating my wife's birthday on the 12th. normca Posted August 25, 2010 Author #9 Share Posted August 25, 2010 justjoejj, also on the Sep 11-25. See you there. Just trying to figure out how to pack with either summer or Fall clothes. Maybe some of both. If anyone has been in the Med. in Sept, would be great to hear their advise.
meldreth Posted August 26, 2010 #10 Share Posted August 26, 2010 justjoejj, also on the Sep 11-25. See you there. Just trying to figure out how to pack with either summer or Fall clothes. Maybe some of both. If anyone has been in the Med. in Sept, would be great to hear their advise. September in the Med should be warm still . However, I would pack a few cotton sweaters for layering if necessary..... - we've been in the South of France in October and November and still been wearing shorts and T shirts, other times lighting the woodburning stove!! justjoejj Posted August 27, 2010 #11 Share Posted August 27, 2010 Also thinking of what to pack being also primarily island voyagers; Tahiti was so easy; guess the best way is in layers as suggested by our friend M from the UK. Are you flying into Nice? Our plane arrives 11:40 AM and we are seeking the most cost efficient transport to Port Hercule in Monte Carlo.
normca Posted August 30, 2010 Author #12 Share Posted August 30, 2010 We arv. Nice at 0845 from JFK via Delta. Have arranged trans. thru Star Clippers for rt. Think that is the no stress way to go. We are also island sailors and will pack using the layer method. But think the weather will be warm. We are 2 couples from NC
Fifer Posted August 30, 2010 #13 Share Posted August 30, 2010 We did Venice to Rome on the Royal Clipper last September. The weather in the Adriatic was disappointing - some rain, a lot of cloud and not much sun or warmth. However, as soon as we hit Corfu the weather improved dramatically and we had spectacularly good days until we reached Rome - when a thunderstorm greeted us in Civitavecchia. Short answer to your question - be ready for anything and use layers, including something waterproof!
