epixx Posted May 20, 2010 #1 Share Posted May 20, 2010 Has anyone visited this area during a port stop in Messina? We are considering a private Etna tour that is offered by Etna Sicily Touring, and the first part of the tour is a stop at the Alcantara River Fluvial Park. Do you think that active teens would enjoy this part of the tour, or is it rather tame?
cruiser620 Posted May 21, 2010 #2 Share Posted May 21, 2010 We went to Alcantara, but only for a short time after visiting Taormina. Since our time was limited, we mainly just walked around and took pictures. It was beautiful with really interesting rock formations. I think there are active excursions to go "canyoning" there. We enjoyed going there since it definitely felt very "local" -- not a place where tourists typically go like Taormina. http://www.italyguides.it/us/sicily_italy/taormina/gole_alcantara/alcantara_gorges.htm Do a google search for Alcantara gorge and you can see a lot of pictures.
