snorkelcrazy Posted February 2, 2005 #1 Share Posted February 2, 2005 :) Has anyone heard of Star tours? I am thinking of booking a manatee tour with snorkeling at Goff's Caye for our cruise on Splendor 2/21. Would appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

bako Posted March 8, 2005 #7 Share Posted March 8, 2005 hello i have been in contact with star tours for the last month by email. said all the right things. problem for me was they wanted all the money up front. i wasn't comfortable with that given the many factors out of our control. they have a 3 stop snorkel for 55$ each. the manatee tour with snorkel trip (shark/ray alley) was out they said there wouldn't be enough time to do both and get back in time. the 55$ snorkel trip they said they could do they would pick us up at the cruise dock transport us there and back.also if we were to show up at there site on caye caulker chances are you could join in. the money up front guaranteed a spot on the tour. another tour company i have been in contact with Belizespecialist.com has a manatee tour and a stop to shark/ray alley and claims he can get us back to the ship on time. i questioned them specifically about the time and he said it was doable. again the problem was they wanted the entire tour amount upfront. he quoted me a price of 280$ for 5 of us . not including 5$ for lunch and 5$ for the park fee. what we have decided to do is take a water taxi over to caye caulker and then pick out a tour there. i have emailed one tour who said this way to go. thay only wanted 25$ each with the water taxi costing 18$ round trip. hope this helped really wanted to do the manatee and shark/ray alley trip. charyoung Posted June 15, 2005 #8 Share Posted June 15, 2005 Did anybody go with Star Tours? We thought that it might be easier to go with someone that picks us up at the pier. The water taxi's are on a schedule and would have some time delays. I am interested in what ya'll ended up doing? Thanks

SCkat Posted July 23, 2005 #11 Share Posted July 23, 2005 when y'all say "manatee tours" how close do you get to the manatees? do you get to swim with them or do you just look at them from a boat?
AshleyJones1978 Posted December 9, 2005 #12 Share Posted December 9, 2005 If you're going to Caye Caulker, it takes a while to get there. We went there on our last cruise, and it seemed like forever both ways!
cruisin newbie Posted December 9, 2005 #13 Share Posted December 9, 2005 We did the wildlife encounter tour with SeaSports Belize. It was an amazing time. We didn't see many manatee and we were not up close and personal (they were being shy due to tropical storm Gamma coming in) the people that we took this tour with had done it before and got so close they could actually touch them. It was still a great trip, we saw iguanas, crocodiles and 2 dolphin swimming around our boat in the river. We looked for howler monkeys and though it was common to see them, we had no luck, thinking again b/c of the storm. The guides were amazing and informative. They took us to a small caye for lunch, then went to snorkeling at the barrier reef. It was amazing (actually "UnBelizable"!). But then again, it was my first time! btw-I would definitely recommend these guys if your 1st time snorkeling. They were so good and even pulled me around on a lifering to make sure I was comfortable. We had tried snorkeling a few days early in Grand Cayman and it was a disaster, they just told us to put the mask on & put the snorkle in our mouths and jump in - obviously the mask was not sealed correctly and I didn't even the snorkle in my mouth correctly. I was back on the boat in a matter of minutes. Even w/o seeing some of the wildlife, this was still the best day of our cruise. I highly recommend doing a tour in Belize, we felt a little unsafe outside of the cruiseship terminal area - it is a very poor country.
Cozumel-Ian Posted December 9, 2005 #14 Share Posted December 9, 2005 For Shark/Stingray snorkel tours you can try www.belize-paradise.com too - they only deal with cruisers and pick up / drop off directly from the ship in new 65 ft catamarans...
