What kind of clothes to pack for early August?

We are going to Halifax/St. John on the Carnival Glory in early August. I've heard it can be chilly out at sea, but what's it like on land? What kind of variety of clothing do we need to take? Summer clothes? Fall? Would like to pack as "light" as possible but would like some idea of what we can expect at land and sea (relative to NY temperatures).

It may be hot and in the 80s, but it could be foggy and cool in the low 60s.

 

Take a microfiber waterproof jacket and a light sweater along with shorts, etc. Saint John is beside the Bay of Fundy which is quite cool. There is frequently fog. Halifax can have fog in the mornings as well. Once you get a tiny bit inland there can be no fog and much warmer temperatures.

In Saint John is can be a beautiful 70-75 degrees, and then within minutes a blanket of fog can roll in a drop it to 60 degrees. Sometimes you can see it like a monster swallowing up the city :)

Likewise in Halifax. I live on the water and I often sit on my back deck and watch the fog roll in, the tep can drop 10-15 degrees in a matter of minutes.
