Norwegian GEM from Venice Sept 11-18 2010 need help

Couple of questions:

1. Although the luggage limit is 50lbs and limit of 2 bags. I am assuming I can carry (roll) these on and off and by pass check in.

2. I am really interested in the freestyle disembarking, so I am looking for confirmation that if I carry (roll) my luggage off and leave once the ship has cleared. I want to catch a train to Munich and it leaves around 11AM and was wondering if I was cutting it too close.

3. What is the best way to get to the Train station from the pier and how far away is it?

You can roll your bags off in Venice, but there is a stairway that you would have to go down in the building you will exit from. You can take a taxi to P.Roma (10E) or the shuttle (free, but crowded) or even walk which we had to do at embarkation due to some sort of road block. It will take about 2 minutes in a taxi or 10-20 min. to walk. The train station is at P.Roma.
