Not doing an excursion

The wife and I have decided to explore Grand Cayman on our own...any spots that are a must see?

Every port seems to have "the place to go"....in Grand Cayman (if you are not a snorkler...because that is the other "thing to do") is the Turtle Farm and then to H@ll.

(I used the @ for an E...so that the boards don't kick it off) happens sometimes.

Hi Deputy Dawg,

I'm assuming you have never been to GC before. Where to begin?

Seven Mile Beach is a must see. Any taxi can take you there. There are multiple beach bar/resturants that are very nice. The beach is public except some of the major hotels hold spots for their guests. Most places charge a nominal fee to rent lounge chairs and umbrellas if you want to hang out. You can also get a day pass at some of the hotels such as the Marriott that allows you to use their facility for the day.

Sting Ray City is the most traveled to spot on GC. However, to get there you need to book an excusrion through the cruise line or book your own via online sites. We have used Captain Bryan in the past and were very pleased with him. http://caymanislandsdiscounts.com/CaptainBryan.htm

There are also many shops in town to browse through and plenty of bars and resturants including the usual Margaritaville and Hard Rock.

Watch the prices though. They use Cayman Dollars. Not sure what the exchange rate is lately. You can also negotiate a tour of the island with one of the taxi drivers. Don't be afraid to negotiate.

There are also many vendors right at the pier to choose from. Hope this helped some.

If you are renting a car, check out Rum Point and star fish beach, both on the east end.On the way there is Smiths cove, a nice little swimming area. Going to Hell is ok, a tourist trap, most people send a post card from there. The turtle farm,IMO, is a waste of time and money, pools of turtles.Breezes in Georgetown is a nice place for a drink and food. Also sample the rum cakes.
