cruising spring break 3/13/05 Elation

I'm cruising with my family from Galveston on Elation 3/13/05. We have cruised before and noticed that the carnival excursion prices were very high vs. other ships pricing. is this because it's spring break? probably. :confused: so we've booked outside the cruise line for a beach break in Cozumel and a trip to Altun Ha in Belize. Does anyone have any experience with outside excursion packages? Also, information on cruising with kids would be interesting to read.:)
