Whale/Seal Halifax Sydney Charlottetown

Recommended Posts

We are stopping in Bar Haroor, Halifax, Sydney & Charlottetown in late June and want to go on a whale watching tour in one of these places. All seem to offer whale watching. Which is the best place to do it with the highest odds of seeing whales?

Same question for seals.

Thanks.

We were in Nova Scotia a few years back and did whalewatching tours from each area. In the Bay of Fundy (off Brier Island), Between PEI & Cape Breton (Inverness) and the top of Cape Breton(Bay of St. Lawrence). We saw Humpbacks in the Bay, Pilot whales off PEI and Fin,humpback and Minkes off the tip ( which isn't far from Sydney.)

I don't think you can go wrong on any of them. We saw at least 7-10 on each trip some times up to 15. :)

We used several tour companies . None were prearranged. The Bay of St. Lawrence was Oshan Whale Cruise.

We were there the middle of July 2006. Most of the tours give a guarentee that you will see whales . I would try typing the name of the city and whalewatching tours and see what comes up. we payed an average of $35.oo each most were 2-3 hours long. :)

None of the places Jaded13 mentions is close to Halifax or Sydney. I would suggest you go to Tripadvisor where a quick search will give you lots of whale watching information. The best places in Nova Scotia are in the Bay of Fundy near Digby (too far for a daytrip from Halifax, and off the north west coast of Cape Breton.

However there are expeditions from Sydney and Halifax. Do a google search. Be sure to research where the whales are in June. You will have a good chance of seeing small pilot whales almost anywhere.

Never said they were in the same locale just that tours are available just about anywhere and we saw whales each time.
