LindaandJeff Posted June 10, 2010 #1 Share Posted June 10, 2010 Is it better to do the Riverboat Discovery in the morning or in the afternoon? Does the weather get better throughout the day? More chance of rain in the morning or afternoon? Are the dogs in better spirits in the morning or afternoon?...that kind of thing... Thanks! sparky-elpaso Posted June 10, 2010 #2 Share Posted June 10, 2010 The weather will be whatever - no way to tell that I know of. We went in the morning and had a gorgeous day (Sept). And the dogs want to run no matter what.

2278 Posted June 10, 2010 #4 Share Posted June 10, 2010 Make sure you pay attention as the boat heads away form Butchers kennel. One of the trainers loads up half a dozen of the dogs in a small boat and takes them up to the village you will be stopping at on the way back. Then as you leave, they boat back to the kennel. The pooches are happy creatures!
wolfie11 Posted June 10, 2010 #5 Share Posted June 10, 2010 In June and July, afternoon thundershowers are frequent in the late afternoon (after about 4pm) so you should be fine with either a morning or early afternoon riverboat excursion. Showers tend to be very spotty and brief although it can rain (or hail) like crazy if you happen to be out in one.
lstrong Posted June 10, 2010 #6 Share Posted June 10, 2010 We will be in Fairbanks for about 3 days on our own - do we need reservations for this? We are in a motorhome and not tied down to any reservations except Denai Tek camp. Thanks, Laurie

LaurieCM Posted June 11, 2010 #8 Share Posted June 11, 2010 When you get on the Riverboat make sure you go to the far side of it to get your seat- the Butchers' place is more easily seen from that side. If the boat is full (usually) even people at the window openings will be standing, so it will be hard to see everything. There are TVs in the center showing what is happening, but you didn't go all that way to watch it on TV! So, get a good spot and then be kind to those who didn't get their info from CC.;)

The very cool float plane demonstration is best from that side as well.
LindaandJeff Posted June 12, 2010 Author #11 Share Posted June 12, 2010 Thanks for the tip on the side of the boat to sit on. That is precisely what is great about cruise critic!
