Jewel Questions

New to NCL and Jewel with questions:

1) Are there chairs / loungers to sit on decks for ocean viewing?

2) Can you get on/off the ship at your leisure for shore excursions and GSC or are there set times?

3) Is every passenger including kids issued a ship ID card? where do you have the kids wear them for safe-keeping? Where do adults keep them while on/off the ship for safe-keeping?

4) I understand about freestyle dining but what do the kids wear at dinner that is "resort casual" if not allowed shorts, jeans, tank tops, etc. in the speciality dining rooms?

5) Is it better to wait until embarkation to sign up for the 2 for 1 speciality dinner reservations or can you get these same deals when you complete final booking 90 days out?

6) Are there shady areas on decks with seats for just relaxing and ocean viewing?

thanks for all your help!!

1) Are there chairs loungers to sit on decks for ocean viewing?

YES

2) Can you get on/off the ship at your leisure for shore excursions and GSC or are there set times?

GSC you can get on and off whenever... Shore excursions all have times noted on your shore excursion tickets.

3) Is every passenger including kids issued a ship ID card? where do you have the kids wear them for safe-keeping? Where do adults keep them while on/off the ship for safe-keeping?

Yes, everyone has a card key. As a parent, I would hold onto any child card while off ship. We typically place them in a nice watertight container that is on a lanyard around my neck and under my shirt (these are available in the gift shop).

4) I understand about freestyle dining but what do the kids wear at dinner that is "resort casual" if not allowed shorts, jeans, tank tops, etc. in the speciality dining rooms?

Dockers, khakis, collared shirts etc... not hard to imagine what is appropriate...

5) Is it better to wait until embarkation to sign up for the 2 for 1 speciality dinner reservations or can you get these same deals when you complete final booking 90 days out?

You cannot book restaurants until you are on board.

6) Are there shady areas on decks with seats for just relaxing and ocean viewing?

Yes... check the promenade deck (7) and also the pool deck to the right and left of the main pool under the overhang...

thanks for all your help!!

1) Are there chairs / loungers to sit on decks for ocean viewing?

Yes there are. Deck 12 around the pool and deck 13 above the pool have loungers. Deck 7 has some nice spots to sit more quietly.

2) Can you get on/off the ship at your leisure for shore excursions and GSC or are there set times?

GSC you can get off whenever - if you're in a suite or shore excursion you get a meeting point and off you go.

3) Is every passenger including kids issued a ship ID card? where do you have the kids wear them for safe-keeping? Where do adults keep them while on/off the ship for safe-keeping?

Kids are issued cards. We kept theirs (they are 6 and 3) - they didn't need them at all. We kept them in our pockets while on board and in port.

4) I understand about freestyle dining but what do the kids wear at dinner that is "resort casual" if not allowed shorts, jeans, tank tops, etc. in the speciality dining rooms?

Kids wore shorts and t-shirt, polo shirt for dinner and they were fine.

5) Is it better to wait until embarkation to sign up for the 2 for 1 speciality dinner reservations or can you get these same deals when you complete final booking 90 days out?

You have to wait until embarkation - can't book online. If you're in a suite you can book them all at once through your concierge. If not, you can book by calling the # or going to the restaurant if you want to check it out first. There's also someone in the Garden Cafe as you walk in who can book it for you and has the various menus. Specialty restaurants on our sailing (6/5/10) were pretty emptry it seemed. Seemed like lots of people did the buffet or main dining room.

6) Are there shady areas on decks with seats for just relaxing and ocean viewing?

Yes. Deck 7

Have fun!
