judyf Posted February 7, 2005 #26 Share Posted February 7, 2005 I also like the skirt better. It would go nice. Better then the pants you posted earlier. I think either shoe color would go with that outfit.
onevacationlover Posted February 7, 2005 #27 Share Posted February 7, 2005 I think the top is beautiful and the skirt will play up to being formal. I like to dress nice for formal nights but I ALWAYS dress to enjoy, too. I believe a LONG formal gown on a ship is too much unless I was on a Radisson or Cunard cruise line. You can be comfortable, glamorious, definitely pass as formal and will be envied with your selection. Have a great cruise!
imlulu Posted February 8, 2005 #28 Share Posted February 8, 2005 I like the top and the skirt. I also like the pants. I just dont care for any of them together. The top needs something plain on bottom in black but long. I like the idea of the top with some long black pants. This will be my 3rd Carnival cruise. I would say the majority of women wear nice dresses or suits. Many wear short cocktail dresses. You do seem some gowns but most are on teens. Many men wear a dark suit or a dark blazer with pants. To be honest I could care less what others wear. Last cruise there was a huge group in toga's on formal night having a great time. We wear what we feel is right for us. Go,enjoy, and relax !!! That is what a vacation is for!

CruiseMark Posted February 8, 2005 #30 Share Posted February 8, 2005 Okay - this guys point of view here: What the heck does it matter what anyone else thinks as long as YOU feel good about yourself when you're wearing it?
cruisergrandma Posted February 8, 2005 #31 Share Posted February 8, 2005 No, not any better. One again - cute, but not formal.
mikeymars Posted February 8, 2005 #32 Share Posted February 8, 2005 Okay - this guys point of view here: What the heck does it matter what anyone else thinks as long as YOU feel good about yourself when you're wearing it? Fine, but part of having that comfort is feeling you are not over or underdressed compared to "all the other stuff" out there on a given evening. And given a picture is worth yada yada yada, here are some actual photos of people on formal night on cruises. Take a look, and then ask yourself which photo YOU'D want to be in!!! http://www.jenandken.net/Bermuda/bm_cruise_formal_table330h.jpg http://www.chrisandmichelle.us/pictures/cruise/formal2.jpg http://www.codehooligans.com/Albums/Cruise_FormalNight_01_2004/DCP_0759.jpg http://www.uvm.edu/~annb/faculty/fonda/personal/Cruise_formal.jpg http://community.webshots.com/photo/238403712/239641631STIWgL http://www.westutravel.com/AGENTS/cms/Rhapsody%20Cruise%201201/Ray%20&%20Cecile.JPG http://www.wqsb.com/Cruise%202001/Formal.jpg http://www.kazmier.com/vacation/images/cruise-ship-stair-s.jpg http://home.comcast.net/~wvery22/images/FormalDress.jpg

Earthworm Jim Posted February 8, 2005 #34 Share Posted February 8, 2005 Last of September-I like the top and skirt better than the prior pants (they were off white if I recall). The picture was some beige-ish color, but she said she was looking at them in black, as shown in GoinCruisin's post. I thought a lot of people that were objecting to them didn't like the pants because the color didn't match and must have missed that she said they would be in black. LastofSeptember Posted February 8, 2005 Author #36 Share Posted February 8, 2005 well, thanks for all the input, but now I'm back at square one. The top was supposed to ship this week and they back ordered it to arrive after I'm back from the cruise. I'm so disappointed! Thanks anways. Zeke3 Posted February 8, 2005 #39 Share Posted February 8, 2005 Stores in my area are having great sales on formal wear now that the holidays are over as another option. Good luck!
mikeymars Posted February 8, 2005 #40 Share Posted February 8, 2005 well, thanks for all the input, but now I'm back at square one. The top was supposed to ship this week and they back ordered it to arrive after I'm back from the cruise. I'm so disappointed! Thanks anways. Sorry to hear that (the top you chose was really nice). Don't know if this will help, but here are some potential options: Rather pricey but nice: http://www.bodybody.com/formaltops.html The "old standby:" Nordstrom's evening separates (like above, not cheap): http://store.nordstrom.com/category/cat_medium.asp?category=2376776~2374327~2374331~2384826 Not quite as fancy as the above, but more reasonably priced: http://www.formalfashion.com/catlog.asp?catid=Tops&rows=4&cols=3 Or this: http://www.theeveningstore.com/cgi-local/SoftCart.exe/dressy_jackets_tops_skirts_pants.html?L+scstore+tygr5968ffb216b2+1107897670
judyf Posted February 8, 2005 #41 Share Posted February 8, 2005 I agree with another poster big sales going on right now with formal wear. I was in Macy's, JC Penney's and Sears to name a few just this weekend and they had tons of stuff. I didn't need formal wear but kinda wish I did. LOL I also like to try on what I buy. I've ordered stuff I thought would be great and then when it arrives I'm sending it back!!!
mikeymars Posted February 8, 2005 #42 Share Posted February 8, 2005 Also agree somewhat with the poster above: unless you the site you are buying from offers good graphics and detailed fron/rear views AND you know you are a perfect match to a given size, it's always nice to be able to try something on before you buy it. However, I've learned that for evening wear, you almost always pay more in stores than online. As example, I just got myself a Perry Ellis white dinner jacket online to go with my tux for a third of what it would have cost from local formal wear stores. JJ21 Posted February 8, 2005 #43 Share Posted February 8, 2005 I think that outfit is great - just because it's not "traditional" doesn't make it not formal - You will look great and stand out because it's different!:)

mikeymars Posted February 8, 2005 #45 Share Posted February 8, 2005 For other potential top sources (lots of beautiful dresses and gowns, but I understand that isn't what September is looking for), also check out this yahoo link - lists lots of women's "formal" wear places; don't be scared off by ones with "bridal" or "prom' in the title, they often have tons of evening wear for adults. http://dir.yahoo.com/Business_and_Economy/Shopping_and_Services/Apparel/Women_s/Bridal_and_Formal_Wear/Retailers/
happynana Posted February 8, 2005 #46 Share Posted February 8, 2005 Have to agree, the skirt is a little too much for the top. You need soft, flowing black pants.
