Cornerbrook Questions

Recommended Posts

I have just begun my research for our cruise in mid-October by looking through the first 3 pages of "Canada". I've found a lot of threads on the other ports but have seen nothing (although I admit I could have just missed it) about Cornerbrook (which Google tells me is in Newfoundland Labrador). I realize I need to do more than just depend on CC for all my info but since I'm here, thought I would ask... what is there? What is there to do there?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

When we were there last fall we walked around town. We went up to the monument at the top of the hill (which also has a great view of the ship in port). Then we walked to a small lake which was quite nice. Overall, not a ton to do IMO, but a neat place to visit. We didnt' look into tours, so there may be someone else who can comment on that.

Cornerbrook is the gateway to Gros Morne National Park. Check it out, especially the short walk to the boat ride in Western Brook Pond. Go to the Roll Call for your cruise and see if others are orgainizing excursions.

Travelbig & MaryAnn, thanks for your info. Looks beautiful. Do you know if there is a tourist information at the pier that would have a map of CBstream or the town? We will be there in Sept. 30.

Yes, there are people there who can help you. You might want to just print a map of the CBstream, though, before you go. The building at the beginning of it probably has maps, I got one somewhere but now I don't remember where I picked it up. For going into town, the town will have a trolley at the pier to provide transportation. I have to tell you, though, that there isn't much to their town. All of the sightseeing is out of town - look at the shore excursions offered by the ship and take one out of town, if you aren't renting a car. I looked into private shore excursions at this port, and they weren't much less (in some cases no difference) than the ship offered ones. Gros Morne is a long distance away and maybe good to have the security of a ship excursion. Hope whatever you decide leaves time to take a leisurely walk at the CBstream. Have fun.
