Evaluating a beverage package? Here is a beverage list with prices, as of mid-2010.

My DH and I will be on the Equinox next month. I am thinking about getting the Premium package for myself (love Martinis) and getting the classic for my husband. Can a person get a drink besides a martini in the martini bar and get something like a Jack and coke in the Molecular bar?

On our Solstice cruise last Sept. the Martini bar did have a complete complement of regular liquors like Jack Daniels & others as well as mixers, but at the Molecular bar, other than what they made, you might have to wait for a few minutes for them to fill your order (they would send someone to the nearest bar to get what they didn't normally stock, or go themselves after they filled their pending orders).

As the beverage package does not cover room service, which bars are open in the morning on Eclipse?

On Mercury the bars at Palm Springs and Cova opened at 7am. The last bar to close was Navigator, after 2am it was still open. I am sure it is similar on Eclipse.

Just signed my wife and I up for the Premium Alcohol package for our Mercury Cruise on Jan 15th. Main reason for Premium instead of Classic was better selection of wines by the glass during dinner.

By the time you figure a fresh squeezed juice or two in the am, speciality coffees, a beer / drink or two during the day, couple of glasses of wine at dinner, maybe an after dinner drink and then maybe a couple of drinks later in the evening at the clubs for dancing, I figure we will get our money's worth. Not really martini drinkers, but who knows - ONLY 8 DAYS TILL SAILAWAY.

does anyone know if you get another bottle if you finish the 1st on stateroom bar setup? also, do they have a max number of mixers (ie...coke,gingerale,etc..) that you can select in the same setup? we were thinking of ordering 1 bottle for stateroom setup then bringing in the rumrunner for the other choice and using the mixers. thanks.

With the Premium Non-Alc package, is is just 500 ml bottle of Evian or can you get the 1 litre ones (that most ships sell when disembarking at ports)? And I assume that with one card, I can only get one drink (i.e. I can't pick up a coke and a bottle of water? or what about fresh squeesed OJ and a cappucino at breakfast?)

Ok, I just joined, so excuse my ignorance. I'm confused about drink packages, what is the deal? You pay a per day price and that's it... or is there something I don't get? I also have questions for those of you that have gone on the Equinox 11 night Caribbean Cruise. I'm leaving Monday. Thanks!

My DH and I will be on the Summit in April.

I am thinking about getting the Premium package since I like to indulge in a Martini or two. :o..:D For my husband the classic since he mostly drinks beer and mixed drinks. However he still hasn't made up his mind , he might like to sample one or two martinis while I'm sitting at the bar.

Do they serve a variety of beverages at the Martini bar?

Sometimes, but not always, you can get 2 drinks for 2 cards, but never for 1 card. If one of bar managers is present, they will not give drinks without each cardholder present.

So in other words, they only allow one drink at a time.

No doubling up allowed.

I just had a thought' date=' if my husband and I are sitting at the Martini bar, he has the Classic and I have the Premium package

can I order a martini on my card then hand over my card to him so he can order a martini?[/quote']

That's called cheating in my mind! and will push the price up for the honest people, down the road.

And you don't think the server will notice that your name is on his card? The staff are very good at getting to know people's faces and names. Very very good...scarily good. Like on the second night of the cruise, the martini bar servers already knew my name, my wife's name, and those of the other couple we were travelling with, as did my sommelier, the maitre'd, our waiter...after having only encountered these people once.

So, no, you probably wouldn't get away with attempting to steal a drink that way.

How would that be cheating if my DH is paying for the packages?

Maybe we should get chummy with the social staff. ;)

I realize that the packages cannot be used in Cellar Masters for the enomatic wine dispensers, but can the package be used on wines by the glass ordered from the wine bar?

Yes!

Welcome to cruise critic! With the packages you pay one flat rate per day (premium alcohol package is $49 per day + 15% tip) and you can enjoy as many by-the-glass drinks as you want all day long up to $12 per glass. You can get water, coffees, espresso with dinner, wine, etc. all of which are included in the package! :)

if all you consume is alcoholic drinks, than it may be not worth it. However, for us, factoring in includes pop (reducing true alcohol cost by $5 per day), good cofees (a further $6-7 a day) making true alcohol package about $27 or so. Plus, if you like wine with dinner - consider the cost of wine you bring onboard plus $25 corkage per bottle, and these 2 bottles will not last more than 2-3 nights.

In reality, if you consume less than 3 drinks a day (or 4-5 beers) it may not be worth it.

But, considering it is equivalent to 3 drinks at $8 and glass of wine at dinner pay-as-you go, package it is more than worth it.

marinerq: That is the most succinct and reasonable explanation i have seen regarding how to decide about the beverage package.... Thanks for your insight and wisdom !!!

THANK YOU for posting the prices! I had booked the Classic Package, but after seeing your price list I immediately canceled it and bought the Premium. For the extra $10 a day I won't be priced out of over half the drinks on the ship!

We're 12 days on Mercury 1/24/11 out of Baltimore, only 10 more days! :D

We are on the 11 day Equinox On Feb 7th. We hummed and hawed but the freedom outweighed the headache. We are in port 6 times but we don't go to bed right after dinner(early sitting) and not every port are we off for the whole time. Once back on board a beer is in order(6). Two wine ( 16) a martini ( 12) and a couple drinks during dinner and at night, at the show and at a bar or casino (16) is 57.50 with the 15%. So add a good coffee or latte (whatever fancy name you want), one or two water and maybe a pop and your still over.

I know myself too well and if I have to pay as I go I will be watching the bottom line all the time. If I didn't drink I would probably get the non-alcoholic package.... but I do. And it is a vacation. Easiest thing to do is think about your previous trips and ask yourself what did I not buy because I was paying one at a time. If you really don't care or do not drink that much don't buy. Price it out. It is an individual decision. But don't think of the "can I get two drinks with one card". If you try and beat the system and get turned down you will just get pissed off. One card One drink.. As for water and pop. Just get one here and there on your way back to your room for later or for off ship. Same with beer. Just tell the bartender not to open it as your going back to your room.
