Freedom Questions

Hi all,

We are headed out on the Freedom on 9/19. Can't wait. We have a few questions.

1. Is there still a tandori station? If yes, where is it?

2. Where can my In-laws smoke?

3. How do you set up "handicapped" boarding? My mother in law has a handicap parking sticker. She does not use a wheelchair, but she can only walk short distances at a time.

4. I have read where people decorate their doors. What can you put on the door? The day we leave is my mother in law's birthday and it would nice to decorate her door.

5. Any other advice??? This is my husbands and my 2nd cruise and the first cruise for the in laws and sister in law. I want them to have as great a time as we had on our first cruise in February on the Fascination.

Thank you everybody!!!!!!

We were on the Freedom June 19, and had a great time! You can go to the Formalities shop on the 5th floor and order a Birthday cake to be delivered to your table. The large cake is $9.95, which is a pretty good price. You haven't lived until you have Happy Birthday sung to you by the waitors! It's always good for a laugh! If you think you family would enjoy the Behind the Fun tour, it would be a good birthday gift. They only take 32 people, so you would need to sign up right when you board. We did it for the three dads in our group, and made really cute cards telling them about it. It lasts 3.5 hours, and they go behind the scenes of the ship, including the bridge with the captain. Our guys loved it!!

To decorate the door you could check out a Party City type store. I got some plastic poster type beach scenes that I put on the door and balcony window. I also picked up some cut-out pink flamingos and tropical fish. I used blue putty 'stick-um' stuff from the office aisle at Wal-Mart. Party type stores sell lots of theme stuff so you should be able to find just what you need.

Thank you Summerlovin and Normal 1.

We are thinking about treating my father in law to the Behind the Scenes tour. Thanks for the ideas for the door. I wasn't sure what you could put up. Its good to know I can use blue tack! My mother in law will be so surprised. Now We just have to sneak to their room and get it up!:)

We were just on Freedom 2 weeks ago. A friend and I have walking problems. He has a knee and hip replacement, i have Arthritis problems. There is a VERRRRY LONG AND STEEP walkway to get onto the ship. Make sure you have a wheelchair ready to go up that ramp. It was pure torture for the 2 of us to get up that ramp. It was equal to climbing 2 stories. In fact the whole boarding situation was bad in my opinion. We've been on 13 cruises and this was the worst for boarding, from the long lines outside the building, winding inside the building, thru security, waiting to get sign n sail cards and finally climbing that long ramp. MURDER !!!!

You can also tell them she can't stand thru muster and they will have you go to another location for muster where she can sit.

Re-boarding in port may be a problem for her too. We waited over an hour in line in Key West to re-board. They have wheel chairs available at the ports.

See you on board Fascinationfinatic!!! I can't wait. 45 days, I wish it was tomorrow.

Thanks for the advice Boozebabe. I will have to talk to my mother in law and see how she feels. She is slow and gets winded very quickly, but she does not like to be put in a wheelchair. We offered for the airport and she refused so I will let her know what you said about boarding.

Do you think getting there early is the key to not having to stand in line?

I decorate our entire door. I bring wrapping paper to cover it using blue painters tape. Then I use scotch tape and tape up the other items. And I have a greeting from our state that I print from our computer. (Greetings from MN!). On the Dec cruise I used Christmas wrapping paper, added Christmas tinsel, bows and cruly ribbon. I also put a ribbon on the railing of our balcony so I could see it when we were in port.

On the Dec 2008 cruise my mom went with us, I went into the terminal to ask for assistance (mom is paralyzed on her right side). We had rented a wheelchair that was waiting in our stateroom, but I was checking to see if there was one available as we waited in line. A worker came right out, with a wheelchair, and escorted all 6 of us right to the front of the line. Then another worker took us right to our room to get our rented chair.

Awesome Service! That is just one of the reasons we love Carnival.

We decided to wait a little later to board this time. We usually arrive at around 10:30. We waited til about noon this time. NEVER AGAIN. The lines were awful. I will only show up early from now on. Sure there are lines at 10:30 too but not nearly as bad. And htere is usually somewhere to sit after the first line. Maybe if we had arrived around 3:00 there would have been no lines. But we probably wouldn't have lunch either. Really try to have her use a wheel chair JUST to get on the ship.

This behind the scenes tour is a fantastic idea, how do you arrange this? I would love to set it up for my mom and dad.

If you booked with a PVP/TA just call Him/Her and they will take care of this for you. Embarking and debarktion. If you booked directly just contact Cartnival and they will direct you to the proper dept. to make arrangements for this service.

Happy cruising! :D

Thanks guys for the advice. I really appreciate it.

Monkeypooh - You can sign up for the Behind the Scenes tours onboard at guest services. I have been told you need to go there immediately because it is very limited and fills up fast. FYI it is $95 a person.
