Disney upgrades how do they work

I have seen several posts saying that if you get to the port early you can be possibly offered an upgrade. How does that work with Disney (I know thats probably a stupid question)? We have cruised Carnival and HAL, this will be our first on Disney.

Your not "Offered" an upgrade thru DCL.(At least not that I know of/heard of.)There are a few ways to get 1 though.

1.Pay for the upgrade, prior to boarding.

2.Arrive at the port early as in 1 of the first people there and see if there is anyroom available to upgrade. Then purchase an upgraded room.

3.When you book, book a gty room.Thats a Guaruntee room.Your basically gty a certain cabin class, such as a cat 10.Worst case scenario, you stay in a cat 10.Best case, is that you get pixie dusted and receive a free upgrade.

4.If for some reason there is an issue with your particular room, and there is no more rooms in that cat, you could be upgraded to the next higher cat.

Sailing on the magic 7/9 just been upgraded from a cat 9 ocean view to a cat 4 deluxe balcony state room , really a result for us as we already had a big discount on the original booking. Can only think deck 8 was not sold out and they moved us so they could sell the ship out.

Depends on how fast the cruise sells out a particular category.Sometimes you can get lucky, and others you dont. For the most part though,Id say its 50/50 of getting an upgrade if you are a gty.

The most common rooms Ive heard of getting upgrades, are the 12s, where a family books 4 people into a room.Thats pretty much a given since the 12s only sleep 3.
