Joby Posted February 10, 2005 #1 Share Posted February 10, 2005 Does anyone have suggestions as to the top spot(s) to buy a rum cake? What is an average cost/size? We will be in Cayman on a Sunday in case that changes an answer.
zydecocruiser Posted February 10, 2005 #2 Share Posted February 10, 2005 Your choices are basically from Totuga Rum Cakes and Blackbeard's Rum cakes. There are several flavors. I think I'm a little partial to Blackbeard's. http://www.tortugarums.com/ Blackbeard's site seems toast at the moment. http://www.rumcakes.com/ http://www.blackbeardsrumcompany.com/ Your cruise ship may well have some for sale. They last a long time - just found one in my freezer from a few years ago I think I will try. That one is 4 ounces and has a $5.95 sticker on it. Think they all give away free samples so you can taste before you buy.
TimmyII Posted February 11, 2005 #3 Share Posted February 11, 2005 Joby-We visited the Tortuga Rum Cake factory out by the Turtle Farm, and purchased three of the smaller cakes. When we got back to the Ship (RCI Grandeur) We found the same cakes being sold on board for the same exact price. This was last November so I can't say for sure that the prices are the same now. I do think that I would still purchase from a vendor in port, as those poor folks were really hit hard by the Hurricane, and need all of the business they can get. Amanda Holden Posted February 11, 2005 #4 Share Posted February 11, 2005 I think they are both wonderful, but prefer Blackbeards. I have bought both. When we were there in April you could sample every flavor they had to offer.
