Formal Nights

We are sailing on NCL Star in September to Alaska. We've previously cruised with NCL for a 4-day trip. With Freestyle dining do the 7 day cruises have a formal night? Or does the freestyle do away with formal nights. Trying to plan for our trip, any help would be great! :)

There are no formal nights on NCL, regardless of the length of the cruise. There is a "dress up or not night" and you'll find some folks dressed up, but many don't. Alaska cruises tend to be a bit more casual, anyway.

We did Alaska in July on the Star, and we did get dressed up for formal night, but tbh we could have done that any night - I had read on here someone who thought more than 50% on her cruise had been dressed up for it, but on ours it was more like 20% I'd guess.

The 2nd night is when you can get your picture taken with the Captain, the photographers are there nearly every other night, so in reality you can get dressed up a different night, get some nice pics taken and avoid the lines.;)

Alaska, Hawaii and Bermuda cruises tend to have less people dressing up. The European cruises tend to have more....but it is still usually far below 50%.

There is no 'formal' night on any NCL ships. You are most likely referring to a 'dress up or not' night.
