Cindersailer Posted June 11, 2004 #2 Share Posted June 11, 2004 You should be okay with the 11o'clock fight. That is the one we fly... never have a problem getting there in time......
hdawson Posted June 11, 2004 #3 Share Posted June 11, 2004 Too tight of a schedule for my comfort level. In Feb 03 my friend missed her 12:15 flight out of Miami. Two Voyager class ships disembarking at the same time, as well as other ships. We were not off the ship till 11:00. INS didn't send enough agents. Computers had been down 4 times by the time we cleared. Airport was jammed with people. I've seen security lines up to close to 200 people in line at Miami. Also travel time by shuttle to Fll is about 45 minutes or more AFTER the shuttle is filled to capacity. Good luck!

Nitra Posted June 11, 2004 #5 Share Posted June 11, 2004 That would depend on the airline. YOu would have the option of paying 100 penalty plus possible additional airfare to get on the next flight, some airline still allow standby but some dont so you may have that option but standby is just that..you only get cleared at the last minute and may or may not get on a flight that day. I would book a later flight and if I got the airport early check with the airline about standby on the earlier flight. Too many things can happen. Clearing Immigration and Customs being a biggie, what if someone on the ship does not have their papers in order, you know they hold up everyone and then you might not get off the ship in time. Alexis Posted June 11, 2004 #6 Share Posted June 11, 2004 Hi, I had an 11:30 am flight out of there. I made it by 10 minutes. They were already boarding the first class people. I wouldn't have made that if not for begging the airport personal to move me along. That was with the first off white tags and the RCCL transfers. Next time I hail a cab to get there. I found that airport to be the worst I had ever flown in or out of. 12/06/04 THE EMPRESS OF THE SEAS. VISIT OUR ROLL CALL HERE
SAYHEYRENEE Posted June 11, 2004 #7 Share Posted June 11, 2004 I ordered transfers from Miami port to FLL and they said they would only do it if the flight was after 2pm. B. J. Fox Posted June 11, 2004 #8 Share Posted June 11, 2004 I have had times where I was off the ship and waiting in the airport before 12:00 for a 2:00 flight. There has been other times where I just made the fligth by a few minutes. I would take the extra time to make sure that you get there in time. 12:00 is as early as I would go. crbonfiber Posted June 11, 2004 #9 Share Posted June 11, 2004 I have made flights as early as 9:15 If you get off the ship 1st and only have carry on that is.
Alexis Posted June 12, 2004 #10 Share Posted June 12, 2004 Hi, Why would anyone book a 9:15 am flight? I have been on ships were we did not start to get off before 9:15 am. If one little thing goes wrong after they dock, customs or immigration is going to hold up that disembarkation time. 12/06/04 THE EMPRESS OF THE SEAS. alacava Posted June 12, 2004 #11 Share Posted June 12, 2004 I uses to work for RCCL at FLL. I would say around 12:30 or later. Keep in mind that both MIA and FLL are near 2 MAJOR cruise ports. Many times we had 4 or 5 ship from RCCL(and celbrity) and almost 10 others from other cruise lines. The airports will get full quick. Also, 95% of the cruise lines use the same bus company, so on the busy days(Thurs. Fri. Sat. Sun. Mon) buses are VERY limited and wait time can be long. Let me know if you have any questions. bob278 Posted June 13, 2004 #12 Share Posted June 13, 2004 My wife and I got off the Century this morning. Our flight was at 12:56, but we were at the airport by about 9:00 and were able to change to a 9:50 flight. However, we had EVERYTHING go right. Had white tags and got off quickly, didn't have to wait long for a cab or in the ticket line and security took only about 15 minutes to go through. Even having done it so easily today, I would still not book a flight before 11:30 or 12:00. It's just too risky. One jam up at one of two or three different places and you're done for.
