Main dining room breakfast and lunch?

Recommended Posts

This is an issue for us at time as well, since we usually travel with a large group. So far, there are 10 of us altogether for our next cruise. More people may be joining us, but 10 of us are booked already. On our last cruise (on NCL), we were a group of 21! So, getting larger tables was sometimes a challenge at the buffet. But...when it is just DH and me and our 2 boys, it's not a problem.

It may depend on the ship, but we especially enjoy eating breakfast and lunch in the open air section in the aft of the Windjammer on Radiance class ships. We are usually part of a similarly large group (12 or more) of friends who cruise together and we try to sit in the same general section every day and after the second or third day, it seems that those tables are available when we get there. We don't all arrive in the Windjammer at the same time but there is frequently a seat or two still available for late arrivals. Were we to have breakfast in the MDR and want to dine together, we would all need to arrive in the dining room at the same time. In the Windjammer, we don't save seats for late arrivals but they can usually find a table in or near the section where the rest of us are seated.:)

At breakfast or lunch in the MDR, can you request seating arrangements - such as a table by the window, or table for two or four? Or, do they simply place you at whatever table is next to be filled?

You can make that request and they will most likely attempt to accommodate you, but I think that they prefer to fill up tables in some sort of predetermined order to insure better and more efficient service. :)

Going on the Explorer for the 9-night cruise next July. Do they serve breakfast and lunch in the main dining room every day? If so, is it open seating or is it a set time when you choose traditional dining? We chose traditional dining, first seating.

You can go into the MDR for breakfast during the hours posted in the Daily Ship paper. I think latest is before 9:30 and 9:00 on sea days. Lunch as well, just check the times they are open. Dining Room Breakfasts and Lunches are great, especially the Salad Bar at lunch. Yum Yum.... So much more relaxing.

On Port days, the MDR is closed.for lunch..Only WJ or Promonade available for food or room service, of course.

Miss the days of eating in the MDR even on Port days, yet we survive and keep cruising and cruising when we can.

You'll love it!

Safe sails.

We usually ask for a table for 2, especially at breakfast! Not too awake to make too much conversation! Sometimes, we'll ask for a larger table lunchtime -- depends on our mood and how fast we want to get out of there!

They try to be helpful w/ your personal requests about table size.
