Cannes Hotel recommendations?

In 2011 we will finish a cruise in the south of France. We would like to stay several extra days and, making Cannes our "hub", rent a car and take several day trips. The only requirement for this hotel is that it be air-conditioned or he will be exceedingly grumpy. We want to go to Eze, St Paul, Nice, drive the countryside, etc. Any suggestions? As always, thank you. c

Pardon my making suggestions that you did not ask for, but for the kind of money you'll be paying in Cannes, you can get something FABULOUS in Nice, which would also be more convenient for your daytrips AND for getting to the Airport.

You don't say what season you are sailing, but why not try for a booking at the Hotel Negresco?:

Their rooms that overlook the sea are the epitome of chic. I swear, you expect to meet Maurice Chevalier around every corner, and the location, right ON the promenade, cannot be beaten

My second suggestion is a little bit further afield. Why not schedule your trip to St Paul for the end of your stay, and spend a night or two at the Hotel Colombe D'or?

The food is beyond beyond, the views are stunning, and the place is choc a bloc with really fine art (Picasso, Monet, Utrillo, Renoir). Added to that, the gardens and the swimming pool are elegant and luxurious, and oh so relaxing.

Leave the "extra" luggage in the rental car and just check in with overnight bags.

On the day of your departure, you can be at the airport within an hour of leaving the front desk.

Hope this was some help-

JimandStan,

I loved your reply and always, with me at least, feel free to offer suggestions for that is how I learn. Your ideas look wonderful and your pix are glorious; I'm ready to go now! I had emailed my TA about our post cruise (Sept) and he assured me that driving in the south of France is still easy and we are discussing where for us to stay. Our TA is open to all suggestions so your idea of Nice makes sense since we could then easily drop the car at the airport. I shall copy your info and send it on to the TA. Thanks again for your suggestions; I really appreciate your reply and most importantly, your pix....excellent! c
