Scarlette Posted June 12, 2004 #4 Share Posted June 12, 2004 FYI Pools were small and very cold. Almost to the point of being uncomfortable.
imsulin Posted June 13, 2004 #5 Share Posted June 13, 2004 Ship's pools are small because water is very HEAVY. You won't find an Olympic-sized pool on any cruise ship! The weight of water plays a factor in where the ship's pools are located, too. All cruise ships have their own desalination plants onboard, which is how you get fresh water in your toilet/tub/shower/sink. Ships would have to pay a lot of money to heat their pools, too. Instead, they depend on solar heating, and the ships with the retractable domes also depend on solar heat while the dome is closed. Most ships use ocean water to fill their pools each day, and they are drained at night. It is cheap and easy for them to do. This ocean water is de-brined and chlorinated, so it is actually much cleaner that fresh-water pools, which are NOT filled and drained each day! Fresh water costs money. whether it is carried or whether it is de-salinated. If you are unhappy with salt-water pools, just think that all that pee is emptied every night! Fresh-water pools carry the same water all week, and that pee just stays there.
