VictoryLover2 Posted September 2, 2010 Author #126 Share Posted September 2, 2010 Wow...we seem to be a lot a like...lol. We have decided to stay too. :D We were looking at the same one NCL. We want to take our grown kids with us. We were looking at NCL too. Jan is the only time we can take a vacation. We know the oldest son (and GF) will most likely be able to go. Our daughter is the up in the air one. She wants to go but her BF is lifer in the Army. He just signed his last re-enlistment and is coming to the end of his present duty station. So no one really knows where they will be yet - There is even a chance he will be deployed. :( I just realised the other day that you had invited us to dinner on the cruise. I am still learning CC...LOL...I lost all the other posts. OK, not really lost - it was just me not understanding how to get back to them...lol. I am sorry for any unanswered posts. I "think" I'm getting better at CC, but don't hold me to it...lol. ;) Kitt Lady.... Facebook (Ed Spa .... Deck 11 sign) or email schlossspa@hotmail.com lets talk!!!!! jabberjaw070596 Posted September 2, 2010 #127 Share Posted September 2, 2010 We still have not begun the 24 hrs cause they have not notified us yet!! FYI.... Carnival's policy on Itinerary Change..... Read it very carefully..... make your minds up fast!!!!!!! http://www.carnival.com/CMS/Static_Templates/Port_Cancellation_Policy.aspx "guests will have the opportunity to cancel their booking without penalty prior to sailing and within 24 hours of the guest notification, and in such an instance, guests will have the option to receive either a cash refund or a future cruise credit. In the event a guest does not cancel the cruise on a timely basis, no refund of any kind will be available." REFUND OF GOVERNMENT FEES AND TAXES: If a port is cancelled from the scheduled itinerary, a refund of the government fees and taxes for the cancelled port will be provided via a shipboard credit. Its frustrating when we have to hear about the cruise from "other" sources From what I have heard from a friend in Dominica.... The Minister of Tourism jumped the gun and let the word out..... CCL now has to scramble to get the "Official WORD" out..... I noticed today when I was on the CCL site they have added Dominica and St. Lucia to the list for shore excursions for the Victory.... two days ago it was only St. Maarten.

How about an onboard credit or free excursion for anyone who doesn't bale on them!! Major disappointment. We were so looking forward to Dominica! Major reason we booked this cruise.....:(

Fourseventeen Posted September 2, 2010 #136 Share Posted September 2, 2010 Just got off the phone with my rep at Carnival (who has worked there for MANY MANY years). I was looking to book the cruise out of Puerto Rico on the 7 day which made a stop in Dominica and he informed me Nov 2nd is the FINAL cruise to Dominica by Carnival Cruise Lines. He stated it was because of problems with the island and that its not a very safe port so they are canceling it. He says that the intenarary will include 1 day at sea now and not port at another destination in place of Dominica. I have never been to this port so I guess ill never know what I am missing lol. I was planning to do this cruise in Jan 2011.
Want to Sail Away Posted September 2, 2010 #137 Share Posted September 2, 2010 You would think they would make the change prior to booking new cruises, not after people have already booked. Really dirty trick....and us cruise critic members have reallly good memories!!!!!!!!!!!!! Someone suggested boycotting drink purchases on the day at sea.....not a bad idea, not sure if it will work though!

Kitt Lady is on it too!!!! Brookie & Ed:D We were looking into Jan 30th sail date. its a bit cheaper :D I dont think by much...maybe 100.00. But it seems the flights out from Phx to SJ arent to cheap either lol. Looks like 1110.00 for both my wife and I to fly R/T.
jam82 Posted September 2, 2010 #141 Share Posted September 2, 2010 I posted this info in the Oct 31 Victory Roll Call also. My PPV called me tonight because I had left a message and insured me we would stop at Dominica on Nov 2nd, but the Victory would not stop there when she comes out of drydock on Nov 21st. A real shame! The sister line Princess skips Dominica too. It's only sea day also; prices actually cheaper right now. How do you know this? To pull Carnival and Princess would big a horrible blow. Fourseventeen Posted September 2, 2010 #144 Share Posted September 2, 2010 Yup id be doing the balcony option as we always do :D Ill look into both options. But couldn't you have also spent the day relaxing and doing nothing with the ship in port, plus have the added benefit of the ship being less crowded? salty dingo Posted September 2, 2010 #146 Share Posted September 2, 2010 Dominica was our very favorite island of all the ones in the Southern Caribbean cruise. We thought the natural beauty of the island was superior to all its neighbors, and the people were friendly. Most of all, there is a lot of volcanic activity that you can go right up to. We once hiked to the Boiling Lake, and there were other more easily accessible thermal features to see. If your idea of a good port is a Margaritaville or Senor Frogs, or you like shopping and beaches, maybe Dominica is not high on your list. I just know I can get bars and beaches anywhere and when I get a chance to go to a truly unique place, I'll jump on it.

The fact that Dominica wasn't a big retail tourist trap is part of it's allure. I left feeling like I had really experienced the true soul of a carribean island. The natural beauty is breathtaking, and the geological wonders on it cannot be found anywhere else in the carribean. I am disapointed.
wesheltonj Posted September 3, 2010 #148 Share Posted September 3, 2010 Unless Carnival makes up the seaday with a huge price drop and I mean huge or adds in another island, I am going change to RCL. I am done with Carnival for any other cruise except a Galveston trip. I do not belive their BS about fuel cost, when you sail right by the island. Or that folks are demanding a sea day, when you can just stay of the ship. Or it was was not safe, there are a lot of bad places in this world and I have been to a lot of them. Why don't they just tell the truth, that island was not profitable for them and they can make more money by keeping everyone captive on the ship selling drinks or playing games. There is nothing wrong with profit, but don't advertise and sell something you know you are not going to deliver.

VictoryLover2 Posted September 3, 2010 Author #150 Share Posted September 3, 2010 :mad: I got this from the Carnival site, all that is left is to get the "Formal" notification from CCL.....:mad: Hello nasha, the reports are true and Carnival was set to release the following statements to all guests & travel agencies: Carnival Cruise Lines is making a minor modification to the itinerary of the Carnival Victory, which offers year-round seven-day Caribbean cruises from San Juan, Puerto Rico. Effective with the voyage departing Nov. 21, 2010, the ship will no longer make a stop in Dominica as part of the itinerary. The vessel will continue to call in the five other scheduled ports which include St. Thomas, Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Kitts and St. Maarten. The decision to make this modification was based on a study of fuel consumption costs which is a major focus for the cruise industry as companies continue to strive for opportunities to conserve fuel. The Carnival Victory’s modified itinerary will continue to offer a fantastic array of exciting ports of call providing a true taste of the beauty and diversity of the Caribbean region.
