ThatGrrl Posted February 21, 2005 #51 Share Posted February 21, 2005 Interesting. The week before, they had to do underwater repairs right after docking in Miami. Now a power outage on approach to Miami. Here's hoping everything is fixed and over by now! Thanks for the additional info, Sharonna!
mj from katy Posted February 21, 2005 Author #52 Share Posted February 21, 2005 Hey Shar! We were up in the Hollywood Odyssey where Don was having a cigar when the power went out. It was really cool to go out on deck and still see the ship sailing along. Don estimated we dropped from 20 to 10 knots pretty quickly. The bartender up there was cool, too. He said, "Nothing to worry about. Our Emergency Response Team has everything under control." He later admitted that that is the very first thing they learn to tell guests <G> We missed saying goodbye to you and George, Robyn and her DH and Talia. It was truly a fun cruise! gailc Posted February 22, 2005 #54 Share Posted February 22, 2005 I have been following all the Feb. & March Roll Calls I have found for the Radiance. Our friends are on the March 6 cruise, & we are on the March 20 cruise. I was surprised the Radiance had more problems. Glad nothing happened. Now I'm hoping everyone who has an upcoming cruise will not have any problems. I don't think I have found a Roll Call for Feb. 27. I'll have to look again. gfleischha Posted February 22, 2005 #55 Share Posted February 22, 2005 There is a group for 2/27 we aren't big enough to qualify for the meet and mingle so my wife and I are hosting a muster party in our room at 3:30 on Sunday before the ship sails. Let the party begin
mj from katy Posted February 23, 2005 Author #56 Share Posted February 23, 2005 Well, the ground is still rocking and it's Wednesday. I even took a Bonine thinking it might help (but it hasn't so far.) I'm sure by tomorrow I'll be fine. I thought I'd post some notes to help with the next cruise experience. 1. I took too much stuff. Yes, I could have planned my wardrobe better by doubling up on some outfits, but I had bought all sorts of nice new stuff that I wanted to wear. Next time, especially schlepping the stuff around from house to airport to hotel, I'll pack lighter. The weather warmed up quickly once we were out of Miami and we didn't need the jackets we brought from Houston. I also didn't need the two sweaters or extra shirts I thought I might need. I'd also bring less clothes and utilize the laundry/dry cleaning services on board. They really didn't seem that expensive. 2. I wouldn't bring all the extra "gear" suggested on another "Tips" thread. Didn't use the duck tape, power strip, bungee cords, clothespins. The best thing I brought was the nightlight (and I forgot and left it there!) Also, I thought I was getting a collapsible cooler, but it turned out to be one of those lunch bag things,so I left that there. I didn't need the air fresheners either. Nor did we drink the extra bottle of wine we brought. We got the Diamond Wine & Dine package - 7 bottles- and it was just right for us. We did end up bringing one of them home and had it that first night home. We also didn't drink the two bottles of Vodka we bought on board the ship. Our cabin attendant was one happy guy! 3. I would have gone to more of the ship's activities. We didn't do any of the shows (hard to do with an 8:30 seating) and our friends didn't seem especially interested. 4. I wouldn't have bought all the facial care products after my facial at the spa. Knew it was a bad deal when I did it and I'm having buyer's remorse. The La Therapie products are pretty expensive and it was one of those real impulse buys. 5. I would book another massage. Well worth the price. 6. I would have sat out on the balcony more. It's a very soothing way to watch the world go by, especially for those of you who are constantly surrounded by people. 7. I won't wait another 3 years to take another cruise! They're the best vacations we ever have. I hope all of you enjoy your own cruises. MJ

CaptainD Posted February 25, 2005 #60 Share Posted February 25, 2005 We've got a deluxe balcony stateroom --- will the over-the-door shoe rack be useful for us?
mj from katy Posted February 25, 2005 Author #61 Share Posted February 25, 2005 Probably not, Captain D. We were in an E1 stateroom with balcony and it really wasn't necessary. We had plenty of space for all our stuff.
CaptainD Posted February 25, 2005 #62 Share Posted February 25, 2005 Cool --- I'll leave the shoe rack at home --- that's one last thing to pack! MJ - About the clothing you packed --- you said you didn't need the sweaters and extra shirts, but I'm still considering a sweatsuit. That's because we had a reallll collllld/rainnny day on a February cruise a couple years ago. One part of me sez not to cuz it will take up a lot of room in my suitcase (it's fluffy), but the other part of me remembers how MISERABLE I was that day. I realize I'll probably be in a bathing suit (with cover-up) most of the time. Other than that, I'm only packing one outfit (shorts & top) per day plus dinner wear --- is that too much? ckrobyn Posted February 25, 2005 #63 Share Posted February 25, 2005 Hey everyone! I'm the infamous ckrobyn  LMAO! Had a great time on the Radiance, and enjoyed meeting all of my M&M friends, including MJ and Elaine! Not sure when the next cruise will be......but it WILL be, that I am sure of. The casino was very good to me, won $1800 USD on a slot machine....not too shabby huh? The Radiance is a very beautiful ship, so take good care of her! :D Cheers! mj from katy Posted February 25, 2005 Author #64 Share Posted February 25, 2005 Captain D: Actually, it'd probably be good to have a sweatsuit just in case. We had them, and I had checked the weather religiously, but found we never needed them. One outfit per day and dinner clothes were about what I packed with a few "extras" thrown in. The one thing I didn't do this trip that I usually do is look for things that go together ie, the same pants with two or three shirts. You can space them out if need be so no one thinks you're in the same clothes <G> Like I said, I'd bought so many pretty things that I wanted to wear them all. Usually, I'm in black with accessories but that didn't feel very "Caribbean" to me. When you get to St. Thomas or St. Martin, be on the lookout for the sarong-type wraps - they can be used as a beach wrap or an evening wrap. I got 3 for $21 in St. Martin and wore one with a red dress on Saturday night. The other two will look fabulous with some of my black outfits. So if you have a basic black outfit, you can use these to accessorize.
ckrobyn Posted February 25, 2005 #65 Share Posted February 25, 2005 Good time for me to mention while we are on the subject of clothing/packing, is that I packed WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY to much! I basically wore a bathing suit all day on sea days, and shorts and T-shirt on Port days. I packed....ready for this????? 22 T-shirts, 8 pairs of shorts, 6 dressy tops, 4 pairs of capris, 4 skirts, 5 bathing suits, 3 short skirts ......enough said ;)
gailc Posted February 25, 2005 #66 Share Posted February 25, 2005 mj - Did your E1 cabin have a door or curtain in the shower? Our friends have an E1 on the Radiance on March 6. We have a D1 on March 20 on the Radiance. Does anyone know if we have a door or curtain? Robyn - You really did pack a lot!! What size luggage did you take? Bet you won't take that much the next time. I read your review. Glad you enjoyed your cruise. I will be looking for your picture outside the casino. We spend way too much time there, but we have lots of fun. Do you remember if they have a "Quarter Drop" machine at the entrance? They did on the Brilliance. I can't remember what it's called. ckrobyn Posted February 25, 2005 #67 Share Posted February 25, 2005 Hi Gail, Yes, they did have a quarter drop machine at the entrance to the casino....those things are a worse cash drain then the slots! My picture may be down by the time you cruise....I think they keep udating the video screen with new winners on every cruise! I did pack a lot and we had HEAVY suitcases....so much so that the airline plastered stickers all over them that said in bright red " Heavy Load" !
over the edge Posted February 25, 2005 #68 Share Posted February 25, 2005 ckrobyn, lol you were lucky you didn't have to pay extra for your suitcases. One of our suitcases was over the weight limit on the way home because we stuffed a suitcase inside a suitcase trying to lesson the number we had to carry. Luckily we had a kit bag, and put some stuff in it and got away without paying the extra $$$. It seemed the things we bought were very small. A few t-shirts and some "JEWELRY"!! Gotta love those "small" souvenirs!! :)
mj from katy Posted February 26, 2005 Author #69 Share Posted February 26, 2005 We had a shower curtain. The shower was no problem for me but I'm only 5'2". Taller, bigger folks might have a problem. Geez Robyn, my DH just fell out of his chair when I told him what you packed. Thanks for making me look good! <LOL>
