gogetter Posted September 14, 2010 #105 Share Posted September 14, 2010 About Us: After dinner, DH and I headed to the piano bar. Was not jumping at all. On past cruises this was the place to be. I ordered a Classic Carnival cocktail. TIP: If you order from this list of drinks they cost $8.75 each but if you take the receipt to the casino cashier's cage they give you a $5 credit ticket that you can use at the casino tables. So it breaks down to your cocktail costing $3.75 since you get the $5 back in casino credit WOOT WOOT! (Carnival Classic cocktails are Long Island Iced Tea, Ultimate Margarita, Mojito, The Cruiser and I think there are a couple more. I only know which ones the DH or I ordered) ! Is this in certain bars or just ordering from this specific menu?
anthsmom Posted September 14, 2010 Author #106 Share Posted September 14, 2010 My dad is terrified that he is going to get stung like the croc hunter I've read that they really work with you to get over your fears do they? They do ease the nerves. Stingrays only use their barb if they are boxed in or feel threatened. Also, let your dad know (this made me even more comfortable) that Steve Irwin did get a barb in the chest but pulled the barb out releasing toxins and killing him. There was another man who also got the barb in the chest and DID NOT pull the barb out - he lived. This of course did not happen in stingray city. The stingray that killed Irwin was when he was snorkeling right above the stingray and camera men surrounded the stingray. It is their instinct to protect themselves when they feel trapped. With the big ocean and standing in the shallow water, you are not boxing in or trapping any of the stingrays at stingray city. Another thing, until your dad it comfortable, he doesn't have to get in the water. Nobody made me get off the boat. I did when I was comfortable. Hope that helps! :)
anthsmom Posted September 14, 2010 Author #107 Share Posted September 14, 2010 Is this in certain bars or just ordering from this specific menu? The carnival classic drinks are available at all bars and/or through a drink server (pool deck, dining room). they are $8.75 each (long island iced tea, ultimate margarita, the cruisin and a few more). Take your receipt to the cashiers cage and you get the $5 ticket. You must play $5 with your own chips and add this ticket to make the bet a $10 bet. Good luck! anthsmom Posted September 14, 2010 Author #108 Share Posted September 14, 2010 Love the review. :) I sailed on Legend in 2006. Sailing again in 2011. I love the tip about the drink of the day and the casino, I'm sure I'll be using that one. :) Also curious about the internet? How did you say you could keep in touch with family for free? Thanks! :) In my review to come...I have some side notes and listed about the internet there. But since I am not done with that yet, you can access carnival dot com for FREE. If you have a laptop you can do it from your cabin, if you want you can use a computer in the internet cafe. You DO NOT need to purchase the internet package. There are forums listed under the carnival website. We used the one under COMMUNITY then USER GROUPS then CURRENTLY ONBOARD. Our family and friends created a log in as did we. I was able to post messages and they could respond. It is not instant messages or emails it is a PUBLIC board/thread you start. All can read and comment on your thread just like on cruise critic which didn't bother us. Best thing about it is it's FREE. TIP: The satelite internet is quite slow so you may want to write in a word document then copy and paste when you are ready to send it. Also, the time is very off while you are on the cruise but when you get home and read your posts, they are real time. Weird.
anthsmom Posted September 14, 2010 Author #109 Share Posted September 14, 2010 Thanks for continuing the review :D Where did MR and Mrs Florida go zip lining? I have read there is a zip line right in the port area. I know there are excursions for this (CCL and independent) but am interested in the one right outside the port for my DD - NO zip lining for me...NOPE. Just curious which one they did. Thanks again There was a clip n zip that we saw right there at the port. I know they did not use them as they rented a car and were traveling around on their own and stopped somewhere along the way. We have hooked up with MR. and MRS. Florida on facebook so I can ask them. TIP: When meeting fun people on your cruise that you can see yourself hanging out with in the future, make sure to exchange emails or phone #s so you can keep in touch. We only live about 1.5 hours apart and plan on getting together and keeping in touch. They were so fun and DH and I laughed so much with them! silverwolf Posted September 14, 2010 #111 Share Posted September 14, 2010 Hubby and I just got off the Legend. We had a nice balcony cabin and a wonderful cabin steward. :) We were a liitle disappointed in the entertainment area- Billie"s was not good at all. We visited the first night and made several song suggestions, most he didn't know. They were very simple requests. Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Bob Seger were not his forte. I wil say karaoke was great! The shows were wonderful. But hubby and I have always had a great piano bar, but not this time. I love Carnival and plan to cruise on her aqain. We loved the ports, Cozumel was our favorite. Embarkation was okay, getting off the ship was a little slow and tedious. The food was the same cruise fare, when will the menus change? I am not a picky eater at all. Love the rueben sandwich. Room service great in the mornings delivering coffee. I love Carnival, they just need to step up a little.

KandCsailing Posted September 16, 2010 #116 Share Posted September 16, 2010 About Us: Our head server came over and introduced herself...she was Bianca and her assistant was Armando. They were two of the best we have ever had! We also had Bianca and Armando and they were wonderful! Bianca is now on another ship, I think it is Imagination. Her last day working on Legend was Sept. 10th. They are not allowed to work for 48 hours before switching ships. Armando is a total sweetie, he also helped me with a malfunctioning hot chocolate machine late one night.

MSRussell Posted September 20, 2010 #120 Share Posted September 20, 2010 Everything in the review is spot on. I was on the Legend on the week of September 6th, and LOVED it. Talked with Ken, the Maitre D', I found out the names in the book 'Cruise Confidential' were changed. He was mentioned in the book, but his name was changed to Dan. Bianca's name was changed also. One thing that thrilled me, in a nutshell, an officer personally escorted me to the 'coins' that are welded for the public to see. I had asked the Captain where they were, and he sent an officer for me. That made my cruise even more special. The dancing waiter was great!! Rare rrraydon Posted September 20, 2010 #121 Share Posted September 20, 2010 One of the best reviews I've read!!! We're doing the same itinerary in 2012 on the Valor. We've been on the Freedom previously and loved it. Definately doing the zip lining and the rafting!
