Experience with late booking

DH and I are thinking of sailing on the 9-26 Solstice cruise from FLL. We have not purchased our tickets yet. Keep looking at the fares and wondering if there will be senior or resident rates given at the last minute.

What are your experiences booking this late?? Pros and Cons??

Obviously, a con is not much cabin choice.

There is no pat answer to this as it can vary enormously. Those last minute bargain fares are great for people who can be flexible in their travel plans and for whom making last minute arrangements to get to the port is not a problem.

 

It works best if you do not limit yourself to one particular cruise on one particular ship on one particular date but are willing and able to accept any of a number of cruises over a range of dates. It also helps if you are the type who does not become emotionally attached to any particular cruise or cabin and will not get upset or be disappointed if you don't get exactly what you want.

 

Sometimes there are wonderful last minute bargains to be had; sometimes the prices do not drop at all; sometimes they sell out completely or the prices on the few remaining cabins go up; sometimes the only cabins left are the worst ones; and occasionally you get very lucky and a great cabin suddenly becomes available at the last minute at a great price.
