Boolie Posted September 9, 2010 #1 Share Posted September 9, 2010 We are leaving on the Gem 12/04. Does anyone know if there is a place we can pick up some sodas close to the pier before we board? We've thought about just asking the car service/taxi (don't know yet) to make a quick stop. Don't know if that would be cost prohibitive or not. Any advice is most welcome!! Thanks so much. travelgip Posted September 10, 2010 #3 Share Posted September 10, 2010 The further away you stop for soda from Manhattan the better! Once you get to the city, everything is more expensive - might as well buy what they have on board. If you are coming from the airport, google the airport then search for supermarkets and get directions for yourself to get there from the airport then to the terminal. I suggest getting the directions for yourself so you can watch if you are taking a cab he doesn't take you to kingdom come  and run up your fare. Not all cabbies like this, but coming from an airport - some might try. If you are staying in the city at a hotel, ask the front desk or congierge where to get before you go. Good luck and enjoy your cruise!
RHefley228 Posted September 10, 2010 #4 Share Posted September 10, 2010 There are numerous bodegas up and down 10th Avenue where you can buy soda, water, etc., but the prices will be lower at a supermarket. Try Food Emporium on West 43rd Street east of 10th, D'Agostino's on 10th at 54th Street, or--the cheapest--Big Apple on 9th Avenue between 41st and 42nd; 2 liters of soda there is currently $1.39.
