Gingee Posted February 15, 2005 #1 Share Posted February 15, 2005 Did anyone see the news today on a cruise ship that lost it's engines during big waves? I just caught part of it today. I think it said "Getty" on it. Don't know where or whose line that is.

Gingee Posted February 16, 2005 Author #3 Share Posted February 16, 2005 If you would have seen the news concerning the ship and the way it bobbed around in the ocean, oh my gosh. Why does this have to happen close to when we sail?
Gingee Posted February 16, 2005 Author #4 Share Posted February 16, 2005 Hey what happened? I thought cruise ships were suppose to stear clear of storms.

Cruising89143 Posted February 16, 2005 #6 Share Posted February 16, 2005 The ship in queston is the Voyager which ran into problems when a rouge wave crashed into the bridge during heavy seas and the water caused problems with the electronics in the bridge area. The ship was without power for quite a while and was tossed around in the seas. She had a ship full of passengers and crew. She is operated by the Spanish company IberoJet Cruises. The weird thing is that her sister ship that now operates as the Explorer for another company had the exact same situation a couple of weeks ago on her way from Alaska to Korea. Note the broken window on the bridge below.
Cruising89143 Posted February 16, 2005 #7 Share Posted February 16, 2005 By the way, this is not something that I would want to experience first hand. I like to feel the movement of the ship but not this bad.:)
Gingee Posted February 16, 2005 Author #8 Share Posted February 16, 2005 So does this spook anyone else concerning upcoming cruises?
corina27 Posted February 16, 2005 #9 Share Posted February 16, 2005 Its hard to believe by the pictures that it is a cruise ship. It looks so small out in the water.
Cruising89143 Posted February 16, 2005 #10 Share Posted February 16, 2005 Doesn't really scare me but I still would rather not have to deal with those types of seas on a ship with no power.
Gingee Posted February 16, 2005 Author #11 Share Posted February 16, 2005 OKay, I am a chicken. I saw my TA today and told her I am cancelling. She had a funny expression on her face. Then I told her why I said that. No I am not cancelling but it does spook me.
