findmewdw Posted September 15, 2010 #1 Share Posted September 15, 2010 What should my family wear to this luau? Will shorts be okay or should we dress more casual attire? Counting days down and trying to get packing started! THANKS
marym933 Posted September 16, 2010 #2 Share Posted September 16, 2010 I wore a Hawaiian dress I bought in Kona. My DH wore an Aloha shirt. Most of the crowd was dressed about the same.

smslms Posted September 16, 2010 #4 Share Posted September 16, 2010 Any casual attire would be fine, you wouldn't be out of place in shorts. Enjoy.
Sunny AZ Girl Posted September 17, 2010 #5 Share Posted September 17, 2010 I am researching luaus right now. Could you tell me why you chose the Smith Family Luau over the NCL luau in Kuai? I have been looking at both luaus in addition to the luaus in Oahu as we have other commitments in Maui. Thank you.:)

I have been looking at both luaus in addition to the luaus in Oahu as we have other commitments in Maui. Thank you.:) Less people was my motivation. I have read that the ships luau just loads bus after bus (which I did see). Getting back to the ship after it is over is a big ordeal. We did Smith's Family Luau with Roberts. They picked us up at the ship on a large bus. 18 passengers went. On the way back we were joined by those who also did the fern grotto. The bus still wasn't full. There were, maybe, 400 at the luau. It is set in a garden by the river.
Sunny AZ Girl Posted September 17, 2010 #7 Share Posted September 17, 2010 How did you like the luau? Was it worth it?
marym933 Posted September 18, 2010 #8 Share Posted September 18, 2010 How did you like the luau? Was it worth it? The Smith Family Luau has a real family, friendly feeling. It is really run by the Smith Family. The grandfather meets the trams, the auntie is the dessert server and nieces, nephews, children and grandchildren are in the show. The food and mai tais were good. The buffet was set up nicely. The show was okay, about what I expected. I really did enjoy the fire dancers. I liked it because it had a "down home" uncommercial feeling.
