LindaKE Posted September 16, 2010 #2 Share Posted September 16, 2010 There won't be much open on Christmas Day. I could suggerst that you might enjoy a stay at the Grand Hotel Marriott Resort in Point Clear, AL, about 30 miles away. It's expensive, but very nice. Another suggestion would be a stay in Gulf Shores/Orange Beach, AL, about 60 miles east. I doubt if much would be open there, either, but there is a resort there that should be open. http://www.perdidobeachresort.com/ Also, there is Pensacola Beach, FL, also about 60-70 miles east. I haven't been there in years, but have heard of some new places there that might be good. (I can't think of the names to mention.) One final suggestion would be the casinos in Biloxi/Gulf Port, MS, about 60 miles west, or the Wind Creek Casino, in Atmore, AL, about 60 miles north. I'ld love to spend christmas on a beach at a resort. Wish I were you. I'll be running between family.

It it pretty much a ghost town around here on Christmas Day. The beach suggestion is good but depending upon the weather it might be too cold to be on the beach. Some of the Beach Hotels/Resorts do have indoor pools but there won't be much for a family to do as all those entertainment places around the beaches will be closed. You will also find very few restaurants that are open.
LindaKE Posted September 20, 2010 #5 Share Posted September 20, 2010 You will also find very few restaurants that are open. That's why I was trying to recommend resorts or casinos. OP doesn't say where they'll be coming from. New Orleans is about 150 miles to the west. That would leave a relatively short drive on embarkation day. I'm sure they would have more open than we do in Mobile. The weather has gone from teens on Christmas Day to 70s on Christmas Day, so weather is totally unpredictable. Your cruise doesn't depart until 12/27...I know this because I'll be coming back into port that day on your ship. But if you do decide to come down here for Christmas Day, I would go with Biloxi/Gulfport...the casinos will be open (and some of the restaurants in the casinos) but that's about it in this area...Christmas Day is tough. cookingchick Posted November 30, 2010 #8 Share Posted November 30, 2010 Hey cookingchick, looks like we will be on the same cruise for Christmas. Oh fun! This will be our first (but probably not last) Christmas cruise. I'm looking forward to seeing the ship all decorated!
