flcraigs5 Posted September 17, 2010 #1 Share Posted September 17, 2010 Freeport - International Bazaar or Lucaya Market Place. Which would you to choose to wander around while in Freeport?
cruiseapril Posted September 17, 2010 #2 Share Posted September 17, 2010 Lucaya Market Place is fun and there's a casino across the street and nice beaches at the two hotels.
zubee23 Posted September 17, 2010 #3 Share Posted September 17, 2010 Port Lucaya! The International Bazaar is pretty much a ghost town.
World Gallery Posted September 17, 2010 #4 Share Posted September 17, 2010 I was reading about Freeport in an older travel book (pre-hurricane, not sure which one) and the International Bazaar was mentioned as a great place so I looked into it. Found out there isnt much there now since a hurricane hit a few years back.

Sargent_Schultz Posted September 19, 2010 #6 Share Posted September 19, 2010 Lucaya - as mentioned, the other is a ghost town. You pass it on the way. daflabear Posted September 21, 2010 #7 Share Posted September 21, 2010 Agree with the other posters. i would add that a fun little hole in the wall crew bar/locals bar, "Seamans Rest" is a great little spot to stop just before you re board your ship. It's the ONLY bar at the dock and it's right on the water. It's behind the only group of small one story buildings right by the ship (any ship). COLD beer, COLD wine, full service bar. VERY friendly local flavor.
gottago2mexico Posted September 21, 2010 #8 Share Posted September 21, 2010 A recent article on the International Bazaar - it is now up to about 50 occupants out of 85 spaces, up from 37 just a few months ago. Hopefully a very good sign of things to come, but still as of now Port Lucaya will provide you with a better experience on a cruise stop. http://freeport.nassauguardian.net/business/298128227974786.php
rkmom Posted October 9, 2010 #9 Share Posted October 9, 2010 We went with some friends this past July, and they did not want to snorkel, so they went to the Int. Bazaar and hated it, Said there were only a few shops and it was mostly very seedy with drug dealers. So they really did not like Freeport at all. We have liked it because we have gone on this snorkeling tour there twice (Sand dollar cruises). The shopping around Port Lucaya is pretty good too. We've gotten "local" souvenirs for our girls and some nice jewelry for me. KL
