Back2Back Cruises

After 25 cruises, DH & I have finally decided to try a back2back, probably on Navigator, 2-5 night cruises this winter (2011)...would love 2-7 nighters but we really can't be gone that long. We're curious about the disembarkation day procedure after the 1st cruise. I tried searching for info but, surprisingly didn't find much. We know that we will have to go thru check-in again but don't know much about anything else, like:

1. what time we need to leave room (hopefully we'll be able to book the same room)

2. what we do after check-in

3. pretty sure that if we have the same room we can leave clothing but will we be able to leave valuables in safe (minus passports needed at check-in)

4. requirement for Muster (don't care if its required this time, just curious).

I think those are the only questions we've come up with for now lol & would appreciate any info. Thanks!

1. what time we need to leave room (hopefully we'll be able to book the same room)

the night before you will receive a letter that tell you where to meet and when, ie, champagne lounge at 1030, the letter will also contain other information you will need to know..

if you are required to go thru customs, some ports you are not, it's up to the local customs people, then you are escorted off the ship thru customs, then given your new seapass card and escorted back on.

If you wanted to leave the ship and go explore the port, you can pick up your new seapass card before you a certain time, like 0900, and then you depart at will using your old card, but you will not be allowed back on until the ship is ready to receive the new passengers.

I did not take my passport when I went thru, probably should have just in case... but you are already checked in when you are given your new card..

2. what we do after check-in

once you are back on the ship you are free to roam around (good time to get pics without people in them). and you may have like an hour or so before other start showing up.

3. pretty sure that if we have the same room we can leave clothing but will we be able to leave valuables in safe (minus passports needed at check-in)

if you have the same room, you leave everything, if you have to change rooms, you just have everything packed up with the luggage int he room, you stateroom attendant will move it to the other room and it will be waiting for you there.. I have had it both ways and the same room was really nice to not have to move..

oh you don't need you passports for check in because you have already been "checked in" when they give you your new seapass card.. If you leave to site see, just show your card and tell then you've already checked in and go tot he waiting area, or on the ship.

4. requirement for Muster (don't care if its required this time, just curious).

unfortunately you still have to attend..

I think that's all your questions... hope I gave you the answers you needed to know...

happy cruising... and back to back's are great...

From our 5 day b2b's on Navigator in Jan:

1. what time we need to leave room?

You will receive a letter with clear directions prior to the end of the 1st cruise. Can't recall exactly what time (9 - 10ish). We met other b2backers in the Champagne Lounge on Deck 5 and were served coffee and juice while we waited for everyone to disembark & then we were escorted off the ship. We waited a few minutes in the terminal - walked by customs , received new seapass cards & reboarded the ship. There was an early luncheon offered in the MDR (around 11:30) - nothing special.

2. what we do after check-in

I had my swimsuit on, so I made a bee-line for the solarium pool which I had ALL to myself! They are turning the ship around at this time - so simply look for a spot where you are not in the way and can enjoy the rare treat of having the ship to yourself.

3. pretty sure that if we have the same room we can leave clothing but will we be able to leave valuables in safe (minus passports needed at check-in)

We changed staterooms, so we packed everything (except clothing on hangers). Our steward moved all of our belongings to the new location. If you keep the same stateroom, I would think everything could stay and you would be able to access your cabin anytime after boarding.

4. requirement for Muster (don't care if its required this time, just curious).

Yes you will have to attend the Muster Drill.

We loved, loved, loved this cruise (we had Promenade staterooms & paid $600 pp total for 10 nights)! We will be sailing in a Boardwalk balcony on Oasis in Jan 2011 and my husband wants to cancel it for another b2b on Navigator... We are even considering tacking on a Navigator 5 day when we disembark Oasis on the 15th.

The itineraries were different, meals, shows, etc. the same. Nice because 5 days is short! You could pick and choose which shows to attend, which to put off. It was the most relaxing cruise ever - no pressure, no hurries, plenty of time to get used to the ship and a second chance to see or do, or eat - anything you missed. Best part of the cruise I would say was the 2nd sail away!!! Whee - here we go for another 5 nights!

And important for most of us - 2 CRUISE CREDITS - instead of one!

We did a b2b on Majesty in June..same cabin both legs...we met near Guest Relations the morning of turn around...got our new seapass cards & we were done...we had to go out & have a new picture taken for our seapass card anytime between 11-3 so no problem there...we had access to our room the whole time..it was wonderful!:D

We did a b2b on the Navigator in the Mediterranean we kept the same room so it was very easy. Got new sea pass cards in the morning from guest relations and then free to do what ever we wanted. We were allowed in and out of our room even though the hallway doors were closed. We didn't get off the ship but I know there was something different you had to do and sounded a little complicated so we stayed onboard. It was nice to have the ship to ourselves for a couple of hours. I do remember we had an internet credit on our card the first week that we lost so you might want to keep that in mind at the end of your first week. What was nice if we missed any shows or events the first week we knew we could catch it the second week, which we did. I can't wait to do another b2b. Have fun.
