Back from Pacific Jewel Bounty Adventure

Just back from this great 16 day cruise. Will try & do review soon. We did miss Norfolk Island due to the "monster" swell, but were diverted to Vila instead. Not too many complaints, the captain was fantastic in securing us an alternative port & shopping. we were due in at 8.30pm, arrived at 7pm, sailed at 4.30am. I'm not sure what the locals in Vila

thought...Saturday night & the tourists have arrived. The duty free shop had a huge line waiting for the doors to open, we arrived earlier than expected. It was chaos in there, & shoulder to shoulder people. Great fun but some people were getting very irritated with queue jumpers. They finally put someone on the door to manage the crowd.

We shopped by torch at the markets at the ship, hard to see much but still had fun.

Hi Maxx. We were on Norfolk Is for 10 days & flew home Sat 18th just after they heard that the ship would not arrive on the Sun. the swell was very big & no way could tendering have safely & comfortably taken place. Out of 5 scheduled arrivals by cruise ships this year only one (Pacific Sun) has actually taken place & even then it took hours to get everyone ashore, just in time to bring them all back on board again. The Norfolk Islanders made a lot of effort to welcome the pax incl substancial financial commitments re available food, drink, tours & goods for purchase. Economically it would be such a boost for them but continues to be a disappointment. P&O really needs to assess the viability of the destination, regardless of it's beauty, history, activities & duty free shopping.

We took one look at the crowds and decided to walk down the street for a few drinks. On our return it was just as bad so we started walking back towards the centre of town - just as another store opened! We were in and out in about 15 min with our full compliment of very cheap booze. :)
