Just home from our Destiny cruise. Sorry but out of our 13 cruises this by far is our least favorite ship. To much shiny cooper walls The staff is not very friendly and did not seem as cheerful as other cruises. We did enjoy our cruise we always do. Half moon cay is beautiful Grand Turk is ok Nassau needs some attention The shows were ok but the best thing I found was an extra shrimp has been added to the shrimp cocktail a total of 5 now istead of 4 Now I have to wait 28 days till the next one Booked two more on the ship We love Carnival but the Destiny not so much

I loved our staff that we had contact with. Our room steward Sean Knox was very wonderful. We had Adrian and Igusti for our waiters they where very good. I did notice they were very tired working all day long and only get a few hours off in a day. With the cut backs that Carnival has done it has made the wait staff work more hours in a day with less time off to get a break. We where on the Desitney Sept. 11-17 2010. The Ship does show the age in some spots very well.

Just go have a good time The ship was ok you will find lots to do. I remember my first cruise on the Holiday I can't cruise enough now. Just enjoy letting them take care of you. Go to the shows. We enjoy dressing up for dinners and pictures every night but some people dont. We always take our own cokes and water to help with the cost a little if you would like i can send you copies of the fun times. I was a little disappointed in the ship but you may love it. I hope you do and become addicted as I have. At grand turk i would walk down the beach a little and lay out The water and ocean floor is better. U will see when you get there what i am talking about. Just enjoy yourself this was a very relaxing cruise for us

Destiny was our first cruise to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary! We were hooked after that!!! We liked the size of the ship and how easy it was to get around as compared to some of the others we have sailed. Of course it has been 4 years since that cruise but we have always compared the bands/singers in the clubs and on the Lido Deck to that ship because they were awesome!! We had a great time on Destiny!!! ;)

Just go have a good time. We certainly intend to. It's already been below 0 celcius and snowing here; a rusty tub would be more fun as long as it's sailing the Caribbean! if you would like i can send you copies of the fun times. We would really appreciate that (rdds2@telus.net). At grand turk i would walk down the beach a little and lay out The water and ocean floor is better. U will see when you get there what i am talking about. By any chance do you know is parasailing can be booked once you're in port on Grand Turk? We'd really like to try this and the websites I'e googled are NOT very functional.

Thanks in advance Tom.

Happy Sails,

Annette

I was just ont he Destiny 9-20 - 9-25. We had a group of 6...all first time cruisers and we had a BLAST. We loved it. Of course i have no prior ship experiences, but have nothing negative to say about the Destiny, ship, staff, or otherwise. I actually like the decor...shiny and neon...i like it for some reason. Our room steward was excellent, the Maiter'd was great, and the wait staff (other than 1 night) was all excellent. We had anytime dining but had the same waiter every night but one. If you have any more specific questions shoot them at me. We were foward on deck 8 with a balcony. Loved the room and balcony.

We are sailing on Destiny in December and (not unlike her sister ships in that class) she has a more odd deck configuration than many other Carnival classes. I find the Destiny class ships a bit cumbersome to get used to and I don't care much for the Lido deck configuration but the size of the ship seems perfect. It simply takes you a day or two to get your bearing on her.

When Destiny was first launched in 1996 she was the largest ship at the time and the first ship to exceed the RMS Queen Elizabeth (built in 1940) in size.

I am excited to cruise on her in December, even if I can't get a balcony on her (she is the one Destiny class ship without the balcony upgrades to her higher decks).

Lets See:

Grand Turk-did the dune buggy excursion and had a blast. Then shopped around a bit in the cruise center area. Bought some T-shirts and a Cuban Cigar, then hit the beach down toward the end of the cruise center designated beach area. Nice beach...some rocks/coral you have to cross into the water but once you are out water is great. Stopped into Margaritaville on the way back to the ship and it was a PARTY! Didnt stay too long but had some laughs then back to the ship. If you plan to snorkel do it here! Wish i would have done that...but the thing with the Dune Buggies you get to see the whole island. So i need to go back!

Half Moon Cay...beach

Nassau-had a bad day. Parasailing was cancelled due to wind. Harley store had hardly any T shirts in LG or XL so didnt get anything...GF lost her sunglasses. The high point of the day was lunch at Senior Frogs. didnt enjoy Nassau.

We usually got back on the ship showered and took a nap, then to dinner around 6 and then found things to do. Casino one night. Adult comedy shows one night. The one comedian was hilarious. We had a great time at the 9:45 show...the 10:45 comedian was not great. But the drinks were flowing. Then we hit the Apollo Bar for sing along with Larry. Great piano player and a nice personable guy. We watched him both nights he was playing there and had a blast. Went to one show on Friday night...it was OK. Lots of thongs...but that didnt make me enjoy it better. Karaoke one night in the Down Beat Lounge was entertaining. and the girls hit up the "hip-hop" dancing in the disco one night and they had fun. All in all it was a great trip. I want to go back to Grand Turk and Half Moon Cay...looking at the 7 day eastern on the Liberty now!

Thanks for the insight on your trip. I usually hang out at Margaritaville on Grand Turk and simply LOVE Half Moon Cay!. I wish they would do a 3 or 4 day cruise JUST TO Half Moon Cay! You could enjoy the island by day then sleep on the ship by night and go back to the island... would be great!

As for Nassau - I am not a big fan (maybe because I've been so many times). The one thing I enjoy in Nassau is the booze cruise... always has been a blast but I hear Carnival is no longer booking excursions on the Yellow Bird Party Boat? I took 2 cruises (3 day) JUST TO DO THAT BOOZE CRUISE... lol

Just got back from the same cruise, it was our honeymoon and our first cruise ever. We picked the Destiny because we liked the itinerary

SO I have no other cruise decor to compare it too. I had seen pictures of newer boats decor and it looked much more fancier. But were laid back people and were worried about cruising being too fancy for our tastes. The Destiny had a balance of people fancier than us and people not as fancy as us so we felt comfortable. I would imagine that if you had been on newer boats or sailed with the ritzier cruise lines before boarding the Destiny then she would definitely be a less glamorous boat. But for us the Destiny exceeded our expectations and turned out to be the perfect ship for us.

The sun and sea restaurant decor was ghetto even for our tastes. It seemed very dated and cheesy, we never ate there as the line ups were crazy, even when we would go for pizza we would eat in the solar pool area or the lido deck as the sun and sea restaurant seemed very swanky even for our laid back tastes, lol.

I didn't have any issues with navigating the ship, other than getting off the elevator or stairs and knowing which side my room was on, you really get turned around, but one side is odd numbers the other is even, so once we saw that we just had to look for the numbers.

I had been on these boards so much prior to my cruise that it felt very natural navigating the ship and getting to where I wanted to go...

One downfall I found was there were no public washrooms on the room floors... now I know every stateroom has a washroom, but for 3 days in a row when we came back in the afternoon our toilet would not flush... it would just fill up with more water when we flushed... so we kept having to go up to the Lido deck to use the facilities until the plumber would come and turn something in the service room next to ours... a cabin a few doors down though must of had a massive issue as the floor in the hallway was always wet and had a machine drying it.

We had a BLAST in Nassau, only because we went to Atlantis and hung out at the waterpark. The touristy area was a little rough though, so I ever go back I'll definitely go back to Atlantis as it didn't seem to have much more to offer for us in Nassau

For these first time cruisers though the Destiny was wonderful, we loved it!

Hey guys - have been offered an upgrade to the Lido or Verandah decks. Which one would you prefer? I will be going on a 5 day cruise in November.

What class are you in now and what class are they offering (and at what price)... Lido is better depending on the price.
