Cruising89143 Posted October 5, 2010 #51 Share Posted October 5, 2010 san juan is not deep enough to hold oasis class ships. thats why they dont sail out of miami and are both in ft lauderdale Not true. The Norway had a 35 foot draft and cruised out of Miami. The Oasis draft is not as deep. Has nothing to with the draft and everything to do with the money. Cruising89143 Posted October 5, 2010 #52 Share Posted October 5, 2010 There was another Carnival ship docked at Carnival's spot so the Dream tried to get into RCI's usual spot but couldn't since the metal thing would have bashed in the lifeboats which hang outside the Dream. RCI's lifeboats are recessed into the body of the ship and hang over the outside promenade deck. No obstructed views for the most part and the ships can get get all snuggly next to the pier. Look at the pics earlier in the thread. According to this thread, the Dream could not dock at any of the piers and it became a sea day. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1102262
Cruising89143 Posted October 5, 2010 #53 Share Posted October 5, 2010 Gordon, no sense arguing when you are right since I can tell you I have been on that Itinerary several times and it was my favorite Eastern caribbean route and miss it. I did give up. Hopefully it finally sunk in.:)
shaggyofwv Posted October 5, 2010 #54 Share Posted October 5, 2010 Those look like stealth rockets, aimed at Cuba. Shhh, don't let that secret out. Fidel is known to frequent the RCI forum.

Rancher Dave Posted October 6, 2010 #57 Share Posted October 6, 2010 So what is so special about the CCL ship, or was it they had Captain Crunch aboard and were afraid to try to dock there? If CCL can get all their ships in there it should have just plain been left alone. jmraggs Posted October 6, 2010 #58 Share Posted October 6, 2010 san juan is not deep enough to hold oasis class ships. thats why they dont sail out of miami and are both in ft lauderdale If that was true, all they had to do is dredge it out just like Nassau did in order to get the business. The Port of Miami didn't aggressively seek out the Oasis/Allure business and Ft. Lauderdale did, so that's why they sail out of Ft. Lauderdale. I am starting to think that the POM doesn't want the RCCL business as fewer ships are sailing from there. Maybe they want to be a Carnival port?
