Rare PatriciaF Posted October 10, 2010 #2 Share Posted October 10, 2010 You need to search this forum for posts by Bruin Steve who provides the most information regarding hotels in the area. Due to the distance from the port, there are no hotels that offer a free shuttle to/from the airport and the port. The hotels around the airport are just that: hotels catering to business travellers flying in and out of LAX. There isn't much else around and your best choice for dining will be the hotel. Most travellers sailing out of the Los Angeles World Cruise Center stay in San Pedro at either the Crowne Plaza or the Doubletree. Many use Price, name your price option, for San Pedro, 3 1/2 stars only, and start their bid at $60 to $65 dollars. A shared van service, such as SuperShuttle or PrimeTime, will be approximately $17/person from LAX to these hotels. What did you want to do in your free day after your cruise? Disneyland, Universal Studios, Beverly Hills, Hollywood, LACMA, the Getty Center, or ???
Fattony Posted October 10, 2010 #3 Share Posted October 10, 2010 You can get good deals on LAX hotels through Hotwire or Priceline, but above is correct: no free shuttles from the port (just between the hotel and the airport). If you stay in the port area and then take PrimeTime, Supershuttle or taxi to the airport, be sure to allow enough time for any rush hour traffic. If you just want to relax and prepare for your flight, LAX is a good choice for hotels. If you want to tour, you can do better elsewhere.
Cruisin' Chick Posted October 10, 2010 #4 Share Posted October 10, 2010 Planning on cruising to Hawaii from Cal., and plan on arriving the day before sailing and staying an extra day after the cruise, Would like any information about hotels and shuttles in the LAX area. Thank you. I would agree with Patricia. Why stay near the airport? The area around there are mostly just strip (you can take that literally) malls. Personally we would stay at an airport hotel only if we have an early morning flight the next day (we did this right after our wedding as we had an early flight to Honolulu -- but once our limo dropped us off at the Marriott, we stayed put even though the room service selection was most lacking). Even if you're getting into LA at night, why not stay by the port. There are two hotels in San Pedro that are very well thought of by Cruise Critic members -- the Doubletree and the Crowne Plaza. At the airport, jump on a Supershuttle or other shuttle service to get to the hotel. Then in the morning, you'll have a free shuttle to the pier. Plus, if you get hungry, there are restaurants by the hotel. As for the post-cruise stay, think about what you want to do that day. If there's a sight you want to see, pin down the area and we'll try to give you ideas for hotels near by.
dolfan95831 Posted October 15, 2010 #5 Share Posted October 15, 2010 We're taking Sapphire Princess in November and are driving from Sacramento. Is there a hotel near the port that has a Cruise and Snooze type offer? Kim

burchan Posted October 16, 2010 #8 Share Posted October 16, 2010 We did several cruises from LA cruise port. Stay at the airport hotel. Good 4 star hotel for $100 with free transport from airport. Hilton, Marriott, Sheraton and others. Take taxi to port about $60. Total cost $160. Find this value in town then add cost of taxi to the hotel and then to port. You will spent at least double and be stressed. For the money saved take 4 hour tour of LA with hotel pick up and you will have wonderfull time. Rare PatriciaF Posted October 16, 2010 #9 Share Posted October 16, 2010 From LAX to San Pedro, a shared van service would be about $17/person. You should be able to get the Doubletree or Crowne Plaza using Priceline, bid your own amount, San Pedro, 3 plus stars only, for around $60 to $70. Again--there is nothing to do around LAX. If you are coming in early, you could check in and take a LA city tour. Or, do it on your free day before your fly home.
