genie423 Posted October 13, 2010 #1 Share Posted October 13, 2010 Has anyone taken the "Bike and Clear Kayak" shore excursion off of Holland America....or any other way? They are charging $74 for 3 hours...does that sound right? Are the kayaks really clear, can you see neat stuff? If anyone has used Clear Kayaks in Costa Maya, could you provide details? Thanks

Thanks Hi, we did the clear kayak about 9 months ago. We didn't do the biking though, they picked us up at the pier and took us in a soft top bus. The ride to the village was neat. We saw lot's of the real town that way. The clear kayaks are pretty neat, but you don't see much until you're out quite a ways. The reef is a block or so off the beach. Once out there, you just barely skim over lots of interesting coral, etc. But we were all paddling so fast to keep up that we didn't have a lot of time for pictures. We were part of a group of kayaks with a lead guide and one at the rear. You didn't get to go off by yourself for 3 hours.

Thanks You might want to try Maya Chan Beach. It's all enclusive and limits the nunber of people they allow. I mention it because they do offer a glasss bottom kayak trip with snorkeling. They'll do that several times during the day. The also offer a bike /nature tour. In between you can have a drink or two, munch on homemade chips and salsa, smelling your lunch being grillied steps from the beach. All for $20 less than the excursion you're thinking about. We'll be back in early Feb. on the Pearl and can't wait. Here's the link http://www.costamayabeachresort.com/ .
