:confused:Hello everyone. We are confused about cruise/trip cancellation coverage.

Any tips for saving $ and "at a glance" list of what is and is not covered?

Pre-existing conditions, cancel allowed/not allowed for which reasons?

Does it cover your entire trip, air, hotel, cruise? percentage cost?

Is there any coverage that you can purchase yearly, instead of each cruise/trip? Thank you!:)

There are a couple of online insurance brokers that can answer a lot of these questions. Google "trip insurance", and the first two hits are reputable brokers.

 

Tips: Shop around

What covered: You need to read every policy in full. They are all different. They usually run about eight pages or so.

Pre-ex: Some policies offer a waiver of pre-existing conditions if you buy the policy within a certain amount of time. Outside of that window, policies vary wildly.

Coverage: With 3rd-party policies, it covers whatever you have paid for it to cover. With cruise-policies, it usually (but not always) covers just what you have purchased through the cruise line.

Yearly: Yearly medical and medevac coverage is widely available. I don't know of any yearly cancellation policies in the U.S.

Thank you SirWired for your very informative answers to my insurance questions. I booked with an online company after reading the various policies for quite sometime. The one broker has a list of reputable companies that you can do side by side comparisons. Makes it so much clearer for those of us that are easily confused! ha!We are only 44 days out for our 34 day sail.We Purchased pre-existing and cancel for any reason @ about 8% of our "non-refundable" travel costs.
