jaykat Posted October 16, 2010 #1 Share Posted October 16, 2010 We are sailing on Freedom in January. I know there is an ice rink on board, but was wondering if anyone provides ice skating lessons? If so, how much are they and when do you book them? Also, is the ice rink open all day every day or only at certain times? Thanks:)
sjcruiser Posted October 16, 2010 #2 Share Posted October 16, 2010 I'm not sure about the lessons, but I know on the Explorer at certain times they had open skate, family skate, teen and children skate. The rink is closed or used for the ice skating show the other times.
ChipLondon Posted October 16, 2010 #3 Share Posted October 16, 2010 The Ice Team are always present during the open sessions, and will give advice to those that have maybe not skated before.
mamapan Posted October 17, 2010 #4 Share Posted October 17, 2010 I know the Explorer offers (free) lessons & after not having skated in over 20 years I was doing GREAT by the end of the lesson. It was an adult class of about 8-10 of us in all with one instructor and about an hour long. It was a great time and I went back again and again to get in some exercise. britsmom2000 Posted October 17, 2010 #5 Share Posted October 17, 2010 My family was on the Freedom in Aug. There are many different 'open skate' sessions during the day, some days more than others (towards the last few days). I am not sure about paid lessons, but I signed my 9yr old daughter up for lessons (called 'Learner Academy'-something like that). They said they would call with a lesson time. It ended up being on Day 7, early that AM. It was a 30-45 min. lesson and she learned some things. However the next time she skated, she went back to the old way of her trying to skate and not doing what she learned, so I felt that she learned vital things, but wasted my time at the same time. Hope this helps!
