Room steward on the Legend problem

Snow storm

I'm not an idiot, and I don't need your help or anyone elses to know that they can be bad for those around me, but only if they are around me for a long time. But all you people who think that 5 minutes of exposure will kill you, or that staying in a room that a smoker occupied before you will ruin your vacation...ya'll are the ones that need some help or GET OVER IT.

it's not 5 minutes of exposure...it is every single smoker smoking a new cigarette every 5 minutes.

Good, I would rather hang out with the smoking crowd. Its usually a better time anyway. Getting around all those hand waving in front of their face, over reacting, fake coughing, "allergic", "my right to breathe" non-smokers drives me crazy anyways.

Its LEGAL. Its ALLOWED. Get Over It!

Goodnight all.

it may be legal..at least for now......but remember it is definitely not allowed in most places...schools, restaurants, malls, hospitals, most hotel rooms....and it is only a matter of time until the cruise lines start to realize that they will have to start to restrict the cabins all over the ship...not just the fancy expensive spa cabins......all they have to do is make one side smoking and one side non smoking....of course the non smoking side will be in much more demand

LoL..tourist want to come to our city, locals want the hell out! LoL.

I guess being from where I am from is a reason I support smokers rights so much. R.J. Reynolds made Winston Salem what it is today.R.J. Reynolds employees' thousands of people from this area. Growing up, that company paid for my school, all my clothes, and the roof over our head. Even now, that company still pays the bills at my home. I would hate to see what will happen to this area if smoking laws become much more stricter or worse, is outlawed all together...

Of course, if the right people would see my avatar and hurry up and legalize it, I would never touch another cigarette.:D

As far as smoking in the resturant, it is illegal in NC now. I went down to Myrtle Beach last month and was like you, they asked me smoking or non, it had been a while since that question came up..

thank goodness Margaritavile in Mrytle Beach got smart and became totally non-smoking. My daughter works there and hated the way she smelled when she had to work the smoking section. I have a brother who has had a quadtriple by-pass, now has COPD and STILL can't quit smoking!! A very addictive, destructive habit! We have a lot of health care problems in our country and a majority of it can be attributed to smoking. I for one can't wait until its illegal period.

As other people have said, probably just the stewards' laziness or not wanting to spend time cleaning a smelly room daily. (Last part was no offense to smokers. It's your right as long as the rules say so.) just saying for non -smokers, a small cabin could potentially smell really bad.

But, screw 'em. As long as the rules say you can, do it. I feel bad for people who get duped by this.

Alcohol consumption (especially red wine) can actually improve the health and life expectancy of some individuals. In most, alcohol can be regularly used in safe amounts. (granted, many have difficulty limiting themselves to those parameters but it is possible and many others do it.)

Smoking, however is "unsafe at any speed" and not just to the the smoker, but to anyone who gets a whiff of secondhand smoke or is exposed to the residue of third hand smoke.

Bottom line: NO comparison.

Smoking......would you like to discuss the medical marijuana theory :(

Take it as what you will however, I was not comparing a glass of wine - would be comparing someone who has a cigarette once in awhile! No comparison

I'm not a smoker, so I guess I just don't get what the big deal is. If you got the ashtray and you had no other complaints about your steward, what's the big deal? People make mistakes and maybe the steward honestly didn't understand the rules of the policy change. The steward may have worked for the cruise line for 6 months but who is to say how long the steward had worked as a steward. On our last cruise, our waiter told us that he was a steward the week prior and that our cruise was his first week as a waiter. So maybe your steward was new. Cruise line staff are human and they do make mistakes...

Maybe this is the stewards way to try to get people to stop smoking, if he gets one cruise to smoke alot less over 7 days, they are well on their way to quitting. If he trys to say no you can't smoke, and you agree, you get to live longer, and save money not having to buy death sticks.

I believe if Carnival allows smoking in the cabins, so be it.

I do believe some of you non-smokers are a little over the top.

You say that smokers should smoke outside but many threads have people complaining about the smoke from the balcony next door.

On our Carnival cruise I had been worried that I would notice a smoking odor in our cabin. But I didn't notice smoke anywhere on the ship.

Just enjoy your cruise and stop looking for problems to complain about.

In the UK if we need to invite a workman into our home, and we are smokers, we have to air the room 1st as it becomes the workmans workplace. Imagine if they had THAT rule on the ships!

I'm not a smoker by the way, but things are becoming a little silly these days!

Can someone help me out here? I've never heard of third hand smoke. What is that <serious question>

I'll cruise with you cory! It's incredible how worked up people get considering the number of non smokers who have cruise and posted that Carnival's cleaning processes work well and the passengers didn't notice smoke smells in cabins. I think they just enjoy getting wound up.

Another use for duck tape. I do cruise with a friend that smokes. She is very considerate of other people. She smokes on the Balcony. At least there is wind on the balcony that will blow the smoke away and I do have a choice to go back in if it bothered me too much. I think the cruise line does a very good job of getting rid of the odor. I just wish it would work in the lounges and casino. Most people do not stay in their rooms that long, so maybe that is why it does not smell. Like I said before, even though I have not been bothered with smoke smell on my past cruises, I will be prepared, Just in case....you never know, it can be some other odor that was left. I have several friends that use to smoke and they had the same attitude as some others, (its is their right, it is not illegal, deal with it). Guess what, now that they have stopped, their attitude has certainly changed. They understand what non smokers are saying. I still have family and friends that smoke and we still have good times...They are just considerate of other people. No offense to any of the smokers. We all love our cruises and will keep on cruising and have a great time.

I'm not trying to start a verbal war with all the smokers here, but, and this a very big butt (lol), I wish all of you could see how selfish you are when it comes to smoking in public places. Even in the so called privacy of your cabin, how much smoke residue is left in the walls and carpet and furniture, etc. And on the balconies there is nothing worse for the rest of us non smokers than to go outside to relax and enjoy our balcony that we payed so much more extra for, only to be forced back inside because of the smoke wafting up or over from a nearby balcony. I myself stopped smoking over 20 years ago after being a heavy smoker for about the same. It took about 3 months after quitting before I could smell just how bad clothes and furniture and cars were after people smoked. Now it's become the main reason I don't go to casinos. Please consider other people before you light up inside your room or on your balcony. It's really no different than if I used your cabin bathroom every night after eating my rear off in the buffet. Trust me, you wouldn't be too happy with your room.

Hey you may be on to something here.. I bet if there was a cleaning fee for smokers, your cabin would have a stack of ashtrays & complimentary cigarettes on day 1compliments of your room steward of course....or how about $50 cleaning fee for people who eat lunch or dinner in the lido finish & leave with food & everything else thrown on the table & floor...dont forget $50 for people with the god-awful perfume/cologne ?...$50 if you're one of the obnoxious drunks - $50 if you find it your right to order a 1/2 dozen entrees in the dining room...$50 to the parents that let their kids run up & down the halls all nite long...or am I being ridiculous  ???

Absoulutely not! I smoke and have learned to just steal an ashtray from the casino on Day 1. No room steward has ever questioned where it came from cleaning it out on the balcony. My other half doesn't smoke so I don't smoke in the room. But, to charge more $ for more work? Not so much. We have never left our cabin in shabbles. I can only imagine the mess some passengers may leave behind. Ewww. Just take a look at Lido outside deck tables and in the buffet area. There are times where it's loaded with dirty dishes, cups, empty bottles, overflowing ashtrays and just plain junk. Can you imagine what their cabins must look like after a week? Some people are total slobs and have total disregard towards the person who has to clean up after them.

Nothing screams of selfishness like someone lecturing on the topic ... ;)
