Butler Service

Recommended Posts

We will be cruising next weekend on the Jewel and this is the first time in a villa. We will have a butler. What do I ask the butler to do? I know this sounds silly but I am curious. Thanks:confused:

The butler will bring you things, and the concierge will arrange things for you....

Butler will deliver daily snacks, and take care of all your room service order.

Butler will get you DVD's to borrow from the list in the cabin.

Concierge will make reservations, arrange for early tender tickets, vip party invitations.

Our butler got a Mr. Coffee in addition to the Lavazza machine so my husband could easily make caf and decaf coffee. He takes the order and delivers any room service you request except when he chooses to be off duty; then it routes through room service. He also made sure we had the daily dinner menus so we could decide if we wanted to dine in the MDR or a specialty restaurant. He works closely with the steward to be sure you have coffee/tea pods, ice and anything you need. Have fun!

Here are a few examples:

1) You can order dinner from anywhere on the ship and have it served in your suite by your Butler. Note: You still pay the upcharge for restuarants like Cagneys.

2) We woke up every morning in our suite to the sound of the doorbell ringing as our breakfast order was served in suite by our butler

3) Need a lounger by the pool but are just too tired to go up and save one? Give your butler some flip flops and suntan lotion and he will do it for you and you can sleep in.

4) Your butler will unpack and pack for you if you want.

5) Have an urge for something special to eat or drink? It will be delivered if it is on board

6) On lobster night we had a few extras delivered to our room as appetizers

7) By the way, number three above is a joke...just wanted to see how many people went nuts and posted hate responses to me.

We just got back from a 10/02 cruise on the Star from Vancouver to LA. Our butler was wonderful. We ate in our suite on 3 of the 6 nights. He would come in and set the table just like it would be in the main dining room. On two of the dinner occasions we were going to be out and we asked him to have our dinner ready in our suite by 7:45 We got back to the suite and dinner was there. Everyday we looked forward to our afternoon treats whether they be canappes or some chocolate covered strawberries.

We had 3 minor problems during the cruise with the suite, a burnt out light bulb, stuck thermostat , and a problem unlocking the safe. We just called the butler and he had someone there within 15 minutes. He then made sure he checked back with us to see if the problem was resolved.

On one night we were going to the main dining room and wanted to bring a bon voyage bottle of wine we received as a gift. Since we were going to have some photos taken first and didn't want to carry the wine with us, we asked the butler if he could make sure it got to the main dining room. When we got down to the dining room, there was our butler making sure that when we were seated, the wine was brought to our table before he left. Our butler was just excellent.

We have done the suites and the luxury of the Garden Villa, with family, on one of our cruises and it is the way to go. The butler will make your coffee, serve you your meals and even serve as your bartender if you have a small gathering in your room. We typically tip our butler $100 for a seven day cruise though we have done more than that if he/she has been exceptional or we needed something above and beyond. The concierge makes whatever arrangements you need him/her to take care of. We could never quite figure out how the concierge knew where we were all the time....he checks to see where you are using your sea and sail card. The best was Alex but he is no longer with NCL.

We have sailed this area a few times and always enjoy our butlers and the service! If you need something/anything just ask and they will take care of it or get the correct person to take care of it.

We usually tip them at least $140-$150 unless in the garden villa because you tend to use them more in the Garden Villa than a smaller suite. It is at least $200 in a GV.

Alex was great! We had him twice and enjoyed both cruises with him. Ruth is also really great!

The staff in the Villa & Suites area does not share in the general pool so make sure you take care of all of them as they will really take care of you! And if you want to get to know them, they do enjoy stopping and talking to the guest. We have shared some wonderful stories and learned a lot from those on NCL's staff we have met. They are all very friendly and very hard workers!

Have a Great Time and Enjoy The SUITE Life :) You'll never go back!
