Casino chips for cash on Mercury?

Headed for Mercury this Sunday and want to minimize the amount of cash I carry...would prefer not to carry a big amount at the beginning of the trip. Getting cheap in my old age, too, and don't want to pay for travelers checks.

I seem to remember reading a thread that indicated you could draw chips from the casino and have them charged to your room account, then turn them in for cash later. Is this practice still available?

Thanks.

There's no need to get chips. Just go to the casino cage, give them your card, and tell them you want X dollars cash. It will go on your account right along with your other expenses on the ship. Yes, this is smart and easy way to get cash.

Coach:

Not only can you just go get the cash but when it is sent into the credit card company it is all lumped together as a purchase. Great way to get miles or whatever incentives if you use a credit card with incentives. I had two rooms last year and got over $600 for tips which turned into miles.

Thanks guys. You know us accountants..."time value of money". In addition to the security reasons, it also delays the usage of cash by almost 50-55 days (25-30 to end of cycle statement and 25 to payment due date). Nowadays every little bit of interest helps.

When we were on the Summit in Feb. we took out $1000 from the casino for tips & just spending, no problem! Did NOT have to use it in the casino & yes, it was a purchase on the credit card for miles!
