Shipbound Posted November 16, 2010 #26 Share Posted November 16, 2010 Did you know that the FAA allowed passengers on an airplane to bring a pocket knife that had a blade of 4 inches or less on a commerical flight before 9/11.
PS90 Posted November 16, 2010 #27 Share Posted November 16, 2010 I've tried it twice, and had it taken on embarkation twice. I've always had it on me, though. Never thought about putting it in my luggage.
5waldos Posted November 16, 2010 #28 Share Posted November 16, 2010 It used to be quite common for men to carry pocket knives- often the Swiss Army knife with everything from knives to plumbing tools on them. You could always count on someone to have the tool you needed in an emergency- from cutting limes to fixing eyeglasses to whatever. I guess in today's hypersecurity this is a habit which has been lost. Now you are stuck. Ever tried to cut a lime with a teaspoon? Not easy. MSRussell Posted November 16, 2010 #30 Share Posted November 16, 2010 It would good for me to use it to cut off my luggage tags and replace them when I put the new ones on when I get ready to leave the ship at the end. What's funny, I asked the room steward if he had one, and he handed me a bare blade. Melanie
e150club Posted November 17, 2010 #31 Share Posted November 17, 2010 I have always had a Swiss army knife and a mini mag lite in our bathroom/toiletries bag. Checked luggage.
babyblue78 Posted December 29, 2010 #32 Share Posted December 29, 2010 DH is one of those guys that carries a Swiss Army knife everywhere. We plan to check it in the luggage, but is it possible to re-board the ship with it if he were to carry it in port? Is it even acceptable to carry a small personal knife in Grand Cayman and Jamaica? 5waldos Posted December 29, 2010 #33 Share Posted December 29, 2010 o.k., why do you need a pocket knife? Until recently almost all men carried a pocket knife- usually a swiss army multitool thing. There was always something that they got used for- from gum in children's hair to trimming a branch- men were men and were expected to take care of whatever came up. Skinning bears and cleaning fish. Fixing the taxi and changing the carborator. Whatever life through at them, or at us women who needed to be taken care of.
