bostonlass Posted February 21, 2005 #1 Share Posted February 21, 2005 I'm looking for an excursion where my kids and I can go to someplace and look at the fish underwater...but not snorkel. I have glasses and am basically legally blind so the goggles won't be of use and I don't want to spend the $$ for the prescription kind. In the latter, you are sitting below the waterline, but the boat doesn't (can't) dive. Optical masks can be had for under $60 and a number of people take an old pair of glasses, remove the temples and they can fit nicely in a regular mask. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=116929&highlight=prescription On the Nautilus semi-submarine, I believe you have the option to snorkel off of it and feed the fish. The other company is Atlantis. There is also decadent snorkeling, where you bring along an inflatable raft and dunk your head over the side every once in a while. I keep saying "oh I don't think I should spend that money on something I'll only use once/twice per year...and yet I keep coming back to this issue. kjunea Posted February 21, 2005 #4 Share Posted February 21, 2005 I have horrible eyesight also and often the company you snorkel with will have the special masks if you just request ahead of time. I have also noticed that even if the mask isn't my normal "perscription", I can still see remarkably well. (My perscription is a -7.25 in one eye and the mask I think was a -4.5). I know that RCCL has them on CoCoCay. You might check with whoever is doing your excursion or with the excursion desk if going through the ship. TheWog Posted February 22, 2005 #5 Share Posted February 22, 2005 I was going to suggest as Zydo did about removing the arms from an old pair and putting them inside. We did the Atlantis sub ride in St. Thomas and thought it was great. It is the same company and I bet it would be great here as well.
