Freeport Our Lucaya Beach/shopping

I was looking at this excursion (through Carnival). They are charging $65 and all that really includes is transportation and a beach chair. I see that the beach is public. We're fairly experienced at doing our own thing on the islands. Is there any unusual reasons that we can't just take a cab over to this area on our own? With 9 people in our party, $65 is insanely expensive for a couple hours on the beach.

Thanks...

Jess

We plan on doing this when we cruise in April. From what I've read here on the boards & from other sources, it is fairly easy & afforable to just grab a taxi from the port over to Our Lucaya ($5 pp, one way). Access to the beach is free. For $20 you can get a beach chair & access to the resort restrooms & facilities. If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will be along soon.

From what I have read you are correct! We are planning on doing this on our cruise leaving this Sunday. We are just going to do it on our own. I find that $65 is really pricey for something you can do yourself much cheaper.

Our first cruise is coming up on the 15th so I'm really un-schooled on all of this! Can you take a Jitney to Our Lucaya? And do you go about it the same as you would a cab: Get in and tell them where you're going?

The $5 per person jitneys are right at the port as soon as you get off the ship. Look for the taxi stand and ask where the jitneys are and you'll be pointed in the right direction.

This is the most economical option to get to Our Lucaya. The Lucaya beaches are fun and the Port Lucaya Marketplace is very colorful and fun to shop at too.

Enjoy!
