Peter Island - Has Anyone Done This On Their Own?

We've been to Tortola a few times now. Last year we had booked JVD through NCL (7:00 a.m. -- 1:00 p.m. in port) and it was cancelled.

I think it was due to lack of interest, but who knows? I've already signed up for it on our next cruise, NCL Jewel, 1/23.

IF it doesn't happen again (I'm just not brave enough to try it on my own, knowing it is the last port day before getting back to NY) I'm looking for an alternative.

Has anyone been to Peter Island? A family friend highly recommended it. We were thinking we could go there for the day (maybe a day pass through the hotel?) If anyone knows about this, I'd appreciate it. I know you can snorkel at Peter Island on an excursion, but the crew we're with really just wants to see a new island and sit on the beach/by the pool.

Thanks in advance,

Dawn
