Altun Ha or Xunantunich

Trying to decide between which ruins to see in Belize.

 

Altun Ha is closer and it is paired with either a city tour or a river tour (at least through Carnival).

 

Xunantunich is a much longer trip but the ruins seem more expansive.

 

Is Xunantunich worth the longer ride and a 7 hour excursion?

I have done both, and I personally liked Xunantunich better. However, with that said, you will not be disappointed with Altun Ha, IMO. They are both great ruins with their own character, Xunantunich will be less crowded and is a bit higher (as others have noted). Altun Ha is impressive, I believe it is the ruins pictured on the Belikin Beer bottle.
