jezzdogg Posted June 18, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 18, 2004 We booked Feb 05, while on the Mariner in Feb this year. Left it in the hands of RCCL u ntil about 3 weeks ago, when I handed it off at a discount to a on-line TA, who gave me the best price of the many I had contacted. Just check website price of cruise has now gone up over 100pp for the same category. Use to be of RCCL that prices started high and a couple of months before the cruise we started seeing price drops. Now it looks like prices are going to start high and get higher, not only that but, ships for next winter are selling out Just thought I would get other people's feelings on this norm
PhoenixCruiser Posted June 18, 2004 #2 Share Posted June 18, 2004 Norm, we booked our cruise last summer. The price just increased, and increased. They did start offering Guarantee rooms at a reasonable price about a month ago. Good luck to you ### Navigator of the Seas 6/26/04

atonal1 Posted June 18, 2004 #3 Share Posted June 18, 2004 It's good old supply and demand. With the increasing demand, the prices will continue to increase. You should see the price of a balcony on Pride of America for next July! So book early, and be happy as you watch the prices increase. yarlenna Posted June 18, 2004 #4 Share Posted June 18, 2004 The past few years have seen abnormally low prices for cruises. There are many results from this unusual phenomenon. 1. Many people got some really great bargain cruises. 2. The level of service on most cruise lines has been adjusted to reflect the recent pricing. 3. The quality of included food has decreased. 4. The quantity of included food has decreased. 5. More cruisers are more aware of more nickle and diming. I only hope that as cruise prices adjust upwards, the quality and quantity of included things rise as well. Work like a dog. Live like a pauper. Save all your money. Then Cruise! TBRay Posted June 18, 2004 #5 Share Posted June 18, 2004 I know just where I work (small factory of 200) we have a core group of regular cruises and as each "newbie" tries it out they are hooked. I know of another one from just a couple of weeks ago that is hook, line, and sinker a bonafide cruiser now. Cruising is just plain fun. People that would never consider it in the past are heading aboard. But there are always bargains. Just after final payment dates there are always those great specials to grab the last few rooms. And then at the other extreme are travelers like me who have booked 3-4 cruises out for the next year and a half. ALL AT GREAT PRICES!!!!! 9/19/2004 Mariner of the Seas *** Royal Mutts Cruise *** 1/30/2005 Mariner of the Seas **Our First Balcony (Corner Aft of Course!**) I'm an Official Hound! dougp26364 Posted June 19, 2004 #7 Share Posted June 19, 2004 Of the 3 cruises we've booked, the Caribbean cruise held it's price until just recently. I noticed yesterday that my cabin catagory had gone up $100. It was originally booked July of 2003. The 3 night Mexican Baja cruise actually went down and we upgraded to a better cabin. I checked last night and that cruise has a large number of the cabin catagories sold out now. Our catagory only has guarenteed cabins available from what I saw. The final cruise just became available a few weeks ago so I haven't been checking that price. My guess is it's the same. Future cruises Explorer OTS - Easter Caribbean 11/04 Monarch OTS - Mexico Baja 1/05 Brilliance OTS - Mediteranian 10/05 Past cruises Vision OTS - Alaska 7/03 Legend OTS - Alaska 7/02 Never regret growing old. hdawson Posted June 19, 2004 #8 Share Posted June 19, 2004 Cruising is growing at about 10% per year. People feel alot safer traveling today than in the last almost three yrs. The over building has now been absorbed. Carnival's revenue doubled 1st quarter over last year. This is the last year of massive newbuilds. Twelve this year but only three next year. So you can expect more increases in fares going forward.
Desertbelle Posted June 19, 2004 #9 Share Posted June 19, 2004 I think it's pretty common knowledge that RCI/Celebrity start out with low prices and raise them as the sail day approaches. On the other hand, Princess starts off with higher rates and lowers them as the sail date approaches. Different marketing stragedy.
