11/14 Legend

Home from my Legend Cruise. I won't bore everyone here with the minor details. But Hightlight and Answer to Questions that came up here:

Ship: Smaller than I'm used to, however I never got the flow of the ship. Decor was ok for me. And I've read lots of comments that it never seemed crowded. Well it was crowded to me. Getting a set at the pool, or the buffet was always a challenge. It didn't look old or run down to me. I never saw rust, however the creaking and shuttering was a new experience. I think she is more than ready for her upcoming dry dock.

Cabin: 5299 Aft balcony - GREAT. Really LOVED it. Only drawback was we had some rainy days and nights and it is not sheltered. Parent's side balcony stayed dry.

Prepaid Debit Cards: No problem using for onboard account.

Smuggling: Got two boxes of wine on board. Used the "take the bag out of the box and wrap in something method". And we taped the boxes back together once on board.

Useful Packing Stuff: Wish I had packed tha bungy cord, couldn't keep the balcony door open. Manicure kit was a life savior. Used those sissors every day for a variety of things.

Casino: Bon Voyage package was GREAT. Full basket of fruit, cheese, crackers and wine. Loved it! No free drinks on Legend when you reach 1500 points. I got to 5K+. Casino bought me two drinks.

Steakhouse: GREAT MEAL - best we had all week. Got two free bottles of wine for going first night. It was fantastic.

Buffet: Didn't like the layout. Seemed limited. Some days it was great (Jamican beef stew, jerk chicken great!) Other days not so hot. Chocolate Buffet - twenty minute wait in line (sister waited - not worth it - I skipped it).

Main Dining Room - food OK, not a single memorable meal. Not up to what I'm used to on my cruises. But better than NCL for sure. Service OK, but I think there is a shortage of Coffee in the MDR. Had a very hard time getting coffee and desert at the same time. ALL WEEK.

Overall: Not my favorite cruise. As a matter of fact my 83 year old father with alzhiemers (who's been on 18 or so cruises) announced to anyone who would listen "this is the worst cruise I've been on". But I've cruised Carnival once before and LOVED it. I won't make the decision of my next cruise on this experience.

I am working on a full review on my web page. www.river-mill-drive.com. If you want check it out.

Not happy to be home. Back to work tomorrow. But I will be spending a lot of time looking for a Med Cruise for spring/summer! I guess that's what you do when you are aflicted with O.C.C.D.!!

Welcome back! Sorry it wasn't all you wanted it to be. We are excited to try a new class of ship, Legend will be our first Spirit class. The Glory, our only Conquest class ship was very confusing, and I am a master navigator....what was it about the Legend that you found difficult to maneuver?

How were the ports? Did you do anything fun/interesting/different?

We really did have a good time. And somethings exceeded our expectations, some didn't. With the ship I never seemed to figure out if I was heading forward or aft. Other ships I've been on had different color carpet for the Port and Starboard sides of the ship, helping the directionally challenged.

We did not do much at the ports. It is difficult sailing with elderly parents. However I think they could have done more if they were able to walk from the ship to the pier areas. But with that said I was able to do more with them this week than I have in the last year. That alone was a bonus.

I'd really like to go back to ALL the ports and do more. Last time I was on Cozumel I didn't care if I ever went back. Now I can't wait to visit again. We did the Mayan Ruins at San Gervasio. I'm trying to create a photo page for my website with the pictures from San Gervasio, but the week is catching up with me and i don't think I'll finish tonight! Maybe tomorrow. www.river-mill-drive.com

Glad you were able to get some good quality time with your parents....time spent never to regret! We took my parents on their first cruise a few years ago and they loved it. It really meant the world to them (and us!) so I know what you mean. Maybe we can get to do it again sometime. Dad is retiring in January so might be easier to arrange.

I never noticed different carpet colors on the different sides of the ship, very interesting fact! I just have an internal GPS, and the Glory kept tripping me up. I understand how that can be frustrating.

I will watch for your review on your website and hope you can get your pictures up - I look forward to seeing them!

This is not the first time I've heard this complaint but I do not understand it.

If you are outside, look at the funnel. It's on the aft 3rd of the ship and slants aft. If the ship is underway and you can see the ocean, water moves aft. If you are in an interior hallway and cant see the water, the cabin numbers get bigger as you go aft.

Not trying to be a smart-ass but what am I missing?

Up on deck it's easy to know which is aft and forward.. It's below on the stateroom decks.

Hey Bondman.. Didn't find your lucky machine but found one of my own. Hit for 39,000 credits on a two cent machine. Put $20 in and took out $811! Now that was fun.

Kind of what I'm thinking...have been on Spirit class ships 5 times and have only caught myself going the wrong way twice (and there is a good possibility that alcohol was involved!:o) My navigational issues are with conquest class and going up and over and down again to get past the darn galley/dining rooms!

Being home stinks.. I miss my aft balcony with the sounds of the wake. I miss having someone clean my room twice a day! And I'm pretty sure if I get myself a bloody mary right now I'll get some strange looks! (Hey if it was ok on the ship at 9:30am it should be ok now- right?)

I HAVE spent a lot of time in the last 5 days looking for my next cruise. Mom wants MED. and it would take so much time we could only do one the entire year. I need MORE. I think I'd like a southern Caribbean (8 day Miracle??)

Haven't finished my trip report (only two days left to cover!) But I have shrunk some of the pictures so the page would load faster. But it is tedious. (www.river-mill-drive.com)

Does anyone know of a good FREE program to compress JPG files? It would be nice if I could compress the entire folder the just FTP up. Right now I'm doing it ONE at a time!

Happy Turkey Day!

I miss my chats on the aft balcony with my neighbours down & to the left !!

Like you, the food on the Legend kept us from starving, but didn't WOW us or knock our socks off.

Still working on my review & will post soon
