Don't want to Cave Tube

belize has some of the finest mayan sites discovered. most are all day excursions...some include a river ride and wildlife viewing besides the history lessons, the tours are a great way to see more of belize and it's critters.

It's just not our thing.. is the Private Island beach break from RCCL a good excursion?

I just don't know what else to do in Belize.. everything seems to be CaVE TubE or nothing.

ideas / suggestions? we leave on Dec 5th!

In addition to several sets of Mayan ruins (and you usually can still climb them in Belize!), there's also fantastic snorkeling. We just snorkeled with Coral Breeze and then had lunch and some downtime on Caye Caulker - *fabulous!*

I just posted this on another thread, but Belize is a small country and you can rent a car and get around to several places easily. I think the Belize Zoo is really, really neat. The prison gift shop, near Hattieville, has stuff the inmates make so they can earn spending money. Altun Ha is easily reached on your own. You could make this circle and get back to the ship with many hours to spare, or with time enough to see something else you want to see.

We're excited to see some great Mayan sites, but can't figure out which is best for our one day in Belize. We had first wanted to see a cave (Actun Tunichil Muknal) but were told by a tour operator that it would be impossible between our 8am and 5pm scheduled port times. We have two 10-yr-old, very curious kids (they've been learning about and sketching Mayan glyphs) so are looking forward to exploring an intriguing Mayan site. It's hard to tell from the descriptions which one we'd like best. Which would you recommend?

Thanks!

Lori

all 3 get good reviews. we did lamanai, but several of the cruise lines don't offer ship excursions there. look over what your ship offers, see which ones work with your times. i know there are private tours to the ruins, but if you do one of the "all day" tours, take the ship's excursions as to not worry about getting back in time. plus belize is a tender port, ship excursions get 1st tender.
